Using Jay as a defensive replacement in RF?

Although Bourjos has been excellent so far tonight, this game is an example of why he doesn't need to be. He does everything better than Jay. Everything.

There isn't a quantifiable category in which John Jay is better than Bourjos. It's absolutely dumbfounding to me how Jay has stuck around.

He would be the best player in baseball history if he kept up the performance the last two games he has started. I don't know what else he has to do to be given a chance to play CF regularly.

I'm not in St. Louis but there seems to be a lot of anger in the fan base about sending Wong down, not giving Bourjas more starts, calling up OT etc. I would bet that if Matheny continues to start Jay that Jay will be booed in Bush. Just like the relievers that are washed up and everyone can see except for the manager. Once they got booed in Bush, they finally pulled the plug.

It's going to take a helluva lot for fans in Stl to start booing Jay. They trotted Skip out there for years without a peep.

Simply Red 05-08-2014 07:26 AM

Completely losing interest in the Braves. That was the worst representation we've had at 7:05 all of this season.

Of COURSE it'd happen against the Cards.

Simply Red 05-08-2014 07:28 AM

Also - I guess I never realized just HOW good Wainwright is - he has some good action on those pitches. Some hitters are good at waiting or sitting on that slow breaker, trouble is he varies speeds.

The Braves couldn't figure him out most all of that night.

He seems to throw about 30 different variations to his curve. Adding to that, he also switches up his windup in slight ways, so it ends up that the hitters can't really key in on anything.

not to mention how well he is swinging the bat...we should make him DH when playing teams from AL

I could really see Mo stepping in and trading Jay so dummy will stop using him. As for Wong, they need to send Garcia back down and bring Wong up and start him for ten consecutive games at least unless matchups are terrible for him.

This is the second time in two years that dummy has continued to be stubbornly loyal to players that just arent producing at all (Boggs last year, Jay this year). I am sure there are other examples as well (Descalso, Kozma, Maness) but those two are the most glaring.

It truly is a joy to watch him. He's become the best true "pitcher" in baseball. He's lost four MPH off his fastball over the last few years, but as his velocity has declined he has added an entire quiver of extra arrows to his arsenal. He even varies the speed of his delivery to throw off the timing of the batter now. It's impressive.

If you combined LaRussa's illogical loyalty with Dusty Baker's tactical ability you get Mike Matheny.

Bourjas didn't get a hit tonight. Since he is only hitting .400 for the month of May and only makes a spectacular catch every game. Put his ass on the bench. Bring on Jay!

And while we are in full blown bad idea mode.......... lets play Ellis and his .180 cant put down a bunt game but leave Wong rotting in AAA.

Heard on the broadcast that we have played 26 out of 38 games on the road to open the season. The most games played on the road by any team in the last 40 years of MLB.

19 of the next 22 games at home. Sure hope the offense gets its shit together during that home stretch.

Miller just looks like he will not be comfortable until blowing the lead. Just like Lynn.

Jewish Rabbi 05-11-2014 08:01 PM

I'm beginning to hate Shelby Miller. one who sucks the penis has meltdowns like he's the son of Jamie Garcia and Lance Lynn. Mother****er can't even get a bunt down to boot. Has he successfully laid one down this year?

kcpasco 05-11-2014 08:02 PM

Get him out Matheny.

Jewish Rabbi 05-11-2014 08:03 PM

George Liquor 05-11-2014 08:04 PM

Jewish Rabbi 05-11-2014 08:05 PM

I've never seen Yadi so pissed. Or seen a manager come and just chew a pitcher's ass in the middle of an inning. You have the best catcher in the history of the game calling your pitches and you're shaking him off. Send his ass to Springfield if he doesn't wanna listen.

He should watch that tape of that inning over and over. It was embarrassing to watch. You embarrass yourself on national TV. You have the greatest catcher of his generation in his prime behind the plate, just throw whatever Yadi calls.

You haven't even made it out of the 6th inning on a semi-regular basis. We all know you have top of the rotation talent. Learn to pitch not just throw. You have the best coach on the field with you calling the game. Listen for crissakes.

Miller was shaking off Molina all night and only wanted to throw a fastball that he could not locate. Which proceeded to piss both Molina and Matheny off. And all of this after he was gifted a 4 run lead.

I don't even know that he couldn't locate it. Looked like he was just throwing whatever the **** he wanted up there. Yadi would set up low and away and he would bring it up and in. It's not like he was missing his spots, he was in a different zip code.

At one point yadi didn't even out down a sign. He just motioned for miller to throw a pitch. Both linquienst and then the next inning Matheny both came out and just chewed his ass. No attempt to cover their mouth or attempt to conceal this was anything but a public ass chewing on national tv.

Why not bring up a AAA pitcher for just one start until Garcia or Kelly are ready to go?

Second baseman Kolten Wong, center fielder Randal Grichuk and left fielder Oscar Taveras batted 1-2-3 in the Memphis order and were a combined 10 for 14 with two homers, eight RBIs and eight runs scored.

Wong, who opened the season as the Cardinals second baseman, was 4 for 5 with a homer and four RBIs, boosting his Memphis average to .344.

Grichuk, who was sent down by the Cardinals over the weekend, resumed his assault on Pacific Coast League pitching with a 3-for-5 game that included his fifth homer of the Redbirds season. Grichuk is batting .333 with a .959 OPS in 108 Memphis at-bats.

Taveras, the most highly regarded prospect in the Cardinals' system, went 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, boosting his average to .307 and his team-high RBI total to 29.

Which brings up the question............Why has OT been playing left field all the time? Even when Grichuk was up here he was playing left. Have they given up on OT as a CF? And if so, just where is he going to play. Holliday is going nowhere. Craig or Adams has to go to make room for OT?

Ellis is hitting .195. He has had 65 AB's this year. Wong had 71 AB's when he got sent down. We can't realistically expect Wong to hit .344 at the ML level but he can hit above the Mendoza line. Wong has an upside or at least trade value to enhance. We need offense and there is an upgrade waiting.

Did Wong say something about Matheny's religious views?
