Exactly. It's huge. If we can get everybody to dump their huge SUV's and get cars that even get 25 MPG it will help immensely. Luckily even the new SUV's are getting much better gas mileage than we used to.

Think how much cheaper gas would be if everybody drove geo metros

Deberg_1990 10-18-2008 10:53 AM

IM going to guess it wont stay down long.

People will just revert back to old habits driving the demand right back up.

No, I don't work in the industry. I used to work in an ancillary industry that supported operations, however.

And, why is it weird?

I really do not think people will forget this spike. It seems different than other times. I know I have changed my habits and do not plan on reverting.

Well, it's not weird in general, but if you told people that you have a hobby of following petroleum prices, they'd probably give you a couple weird looks.

BigMeatballDave 10-18-2008 01:39 PM

I didnt think we'd ever see gas under $2. Looks like we may. I am still budgeting at $4/gal. The way the markets are, I wouldn't be surprised to see oil jump up $20 monday.

Saulbadguy 10-18-2008 02:04 PM

$2.27 in Topeka.

We're the highest taxed state in the union. We're still paying north of $3 as well. It has gone down around .35 a gallon in the last week.

58-4ever 10-18-2008 06:37 PM

I paid 2.29 today! That's big savings for a guy that drives 40 miles to work each day!

Looks like hes gonna win.

It was $3.00. See 1096.

And, I've already won.

I doubt we'll see sub-$2.00 national retail average again.

jjchieffan 10-20-2008 08:29 PM

Prices ranging from $2.17 to $2.21 in the Springfield area. Around $3.00 a gallon across the state in the Poplar Bluff area. I don't see how they are consistently that much higher over there. It can't be taxes. It is still MO.

i almost hope it does gblow but i dont think its necessary. big oil let prices stay high too long. as such many already made the change to use less...and thus having already made the sacrafice, why change back? ill just use less and save more.

I really hope people don't forget. We are looking at about a 7% drop in demand in this country right now. I don't think people understand how significant that really is, and that it is really the only thing people can do to combat high gasoline prices.

Sam Hall 10-22-2008 04:33 PM

Connecticut? Wow.

BWillie 10-25-2008 02:50 PM

Filled up in Liberty, MO this morning for 2.11 a gallon. I have like a 18 gallon tank and it only cost me 37 dollars whereas when I first got my car a few months ago I was paying 75 a tank. So Donger, how come gas is been cut almost in half in the last 2 months? I would think if demand has decreased it would be a much slower price cut than the massive price cuts we've seen at the pump the last couple months.

jjchieffan 10-25-2008 03:21 PM

The $2 barrier has been broke in SW MO. My wife just bought gas at the Cassville Wal-Mart. $1.99 at the pump minus 3 cents for using a WalMart card. She paid $1.96 a gallon. Sweet!

Bowser 10-25-2008 03:23 PM

I'll guess it will bottom out around 1.79, then slingshot back up around 3.09 a few weeks after the elections.
