To use "really good hitter" is pushing it. He should be a "really good hitter" for what we are paying him. Next year if all goes well, he will play about 15 games at 1B and DH for about 140 games, at the same time making 8 million dollars a year. The Royals can spend their money more wisely ELSEWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you base "terrific value" on?? Just asking. Not trying to be an ass. I am not on board with his signing and never have been. I appreciated him signing a contract when noone would touch the Royals with a ten ft pole, but do you think maybe he realized he was a fat unathletic career DH who would never hit more than .315. With the contract that he signed, he should hit 30 hrs, drive in 100 and hit 40 doubles. Seriously!!

Billy Butler's swing stays in the zone along time, he has hit at every level, he uses all fields. He can he is probably in the top 20 hitters on the planet earth.

To simplify, last year Butler's OPS was better than:

Texeira
Heyward
Crawford
Wright
Hanley Ramirez
ARod......to name a few

For a guy that just turned 25, $7.5M seems pretty reasonable to me.

WOW! You should stop smoking crack! Your and idiot. He's not even the best hitter on his own team.

Ok, now I know you're fishing. Not sure why, but it's confirmed.

Last year. What is your point? He is fat and unathletic. Can't play defense and he is a DH. Argument fail. Everyone on your list at least plays 9 innings.

Jim Thome is fat (ish) and unathletic. Frank Thomas was unathletic. Edgar Martinez was an unathletic DH as well. They all suck too? The point that was made is that Butler is a good/very good hitter (my OPS stats as a reference) who is making reasonable money. If he were a decent 3rd basemen, he'd be making quite a bit more money. Thus, he's paid fairly for the role he plays.

Oh, and who the **** is a better hitter on the Royals?

Sure-Oz 04-28-2011 01:27 PM

Anyone concerned Gordon will keep playing 1st? I hated that move yesterday

Yes, and this is a move that would make Hillman cringe.

Gordon was playing a plus left field, and Hosmer is on the horizon. Moving Alex just couldn't get any ****ing dumber.

It's draft day, what the **** are you morons doing in the Royals thread?

In other news, Gordon at first was stupid.

Demonpenz 04-28-2011 01:34 PM

Moving Gordon... a great athlete moving him to first is failure unless he is at the end of his career.
