2010:
UZR: Kila #10 in all of baseball, Butler VERY damn bad, 11th worst in all of baseball, out of 46 players.
ErrR: Butler #14, Kila #22
What we have here is basically a player with FAR superior range being punished for his range. Stone-footed defenders who cant get to a marginal ball to save their lives don't get as many errors as somebody with equal hands who is able to get to anything hit their way.
Kila has superior range compared to Butler, so he gets to more balls, but the increased number of chances also leads to more misses which makes him look worse. As fans, we often take range for granted and harshly criticize what looks like errors, even if Butler would have never gotten anywhere near a similar ball hit to him.
Of course, Kila's bat also sucks this year. If he cant hit, this is all academic because 1B defense isn't worth much. I'll take a good hitting Butler, defensive warts and all, over a no-hitting Kila any day.
