It is my full intention to build my own trophy bass pond(s). I've got a design in mind which includes 2 small adjacent, shallow ponds, which will be stocked with Fatheads and Crawfish....and seined once each year(spring and fall) and flood the main pond with food source.

I don't have any idea what happend, but I have 2 guesses. I'm guessing the Septic System from the house up the hill went bad and is draining poo into the pond OR they've over-fertilized their yard and it ran off into the pond(its a large pond, but fairly close to a house.....a nice house).

I assumed the problem would end up being, that they DO allow fishing, and too many people were...and leaving trash, and keeping fish they were told NOT to...I've chewed 2 people there for dicking it up for everyone in the past, and carried out a small sack of trash last night. Its too bad, really.

Black Perch and Blue Gill ‘bout the size of your hand are what we’re use’n on the river for flat heads.

Bluegill and perch are definitely good bait for flatheads. If you can find a pond with bullheads, use some of those...they're the chocolate for the fat-chics of flathead.

You sure that’s a good idea? From what I’ve heard you’ll eventually wind up with a pond empty ‘cept for a couple of fat-n-happy flat heads.

:shake: Exactly why public access is being limited everywhere, jackasses can’t haul out their own trash.

That’s a good idea, I’ve heard that before, but bullheads are get’n kinda rare here.

Bump

I am heading out next weekend, but I have been to busy to get much fishing done in the last few weeks. Has anyone else been making it out, having any luck?

NewChief 08-08-2005 08:50 AM

Just got back from the Ft. Morgan peninsula down in Alabama. Fly fished the surf and out of kayaks for the week. We found a nice spot where two tidepools emptied into the ocean and fished it in the mornings. We had tons of luck, catching blues, reds, and ladyfish with baitfish patterns. It was awesome fun! Nothing pulls quite like a saltwater fish.

Thought I'd throw up a few pictures from our trip:

I took my 3 year old daughter fishing at my parents pond. She has one of those little Scooby Doo kiddie fishing poles.

I put a worm on the hook and cast it out for her. Within about 5 minutes she had a bite. The real started screaming as I was helping her real it in. She freaked out and ran to mommy while I finished reeling it to shore.

Ended up being a channel cat that was about 3 lbs. I have no idea how the real did not explode while trying to get that thing to shore.

G'night hos. I'm going fishing in the morning and can't stay up any longer. Will hopefully be telling you about many smallmouth caught later in the week.

Good Luck to you. I slayed NUMEROUS trout myself last weekend.

Alright, I'm still up and checking the board. Congrats on the good trip. I also had a good trip recently with a guide friend. We let a newspaper reporter tag along, and I made the cover of our outdoors section two weeks running from the trip. I'm famous and shit around here now. Pretty funny...at least to the guys at the fly shop.

Caught this puppy yesterday at Penns Creek up by State College on a flashback pheasent tail. If you're familar with fishing PA (let alone in the winter) this is a nice catch. Almost had frostbite by the time I finally got him in.

Very nice fish anywhere, not just in PA. What did it go? 16-18"? Very fat and healthy, that's for sure. I'm headed to the Little Red this weekend (current home to the world record brown trout).
