OK... that makes sense. A player cannot "hurdle" when a cutblocker sneaks up behind him. Its gotta be illegal, otherwise players would all be sneaking up behind people to blow their knees up. Teams would need a roster bigger than 53 to last a whole year if that was a legal play....

The rule states that its legal if the defender has a chance to hurdle the offensive player.

You cant do that if the offensive player is behind you.

Id like to see a high res screen shot of the moment the contact takes place.

I wish I was home so I could freeze it at the moment that happens...but its hard to do with my road laptop Im using.

WTF?

So for the season, the Chiefs gave up more than 50 yards receiving to a TE just 5 times - with 4 of them coming from vet. TE's .

Get the **** out of here with your bullshit. Yeah, Berry really doesn't make a difference covering TEs. Where did they kill us again?

lots of big first downs in there, but admittedly I thought opposing tight ends hurt us a lot more than that.

I dont feel like going back through box scores to see what the teams #2 TE options did to us, but even without anything....about 600 yards given up to tight ends is above average.

The point is that Berrys job as a SS isnt covering a tight end that is coming across the field and thats what hurts us.

Berry absolutely would have been covering the TE's that Pissthebed did today. Berry got beaten up by Gates and Heap, but held his own against everyone else.

Jon McGraw was Berrys replacement iirc...but admittedly, I was watching a stream on the road laptop and not watching at home where this would be much clearer.

According tro ESPNs box score and whole game play by play...only one pass to Chandler was credited to McGraws coverage (Berrys replacement) and the rest were credited to other defenders...mostly Piscatelli.

They were attacking our weakest link on defense constantly...that was Gaileys MO.

Once Berry went down, that weakest link seemed to be sabby more often than not.

Isn't that what any coach with a brain would do?...

well, on defense we didnt even try to attack their crap OTs and on offense we only had 18 rushing attempts against last years worst rated run defense.

So, yeah.

It was like we schemed to lose this game badly.

To answer your question...absolutely, but today it seemed we didnt have any brains that you speak of.

That's my point.

Last year's no 1 rushing team didn't ever try to establish the run.

At all. Constantly throwing on first down, giving us 2nd and long, and shooting ourselves in the foot.

WE ARE NOT A PASSING TEAM. PERIOD.

Haley's game day coaching is like a frustrated 13 year old playing Madden...

BossChief 09-12-2011 12:08 AM

Im not sure which was more puzzling:

not running on last years worst rated rush defense

or

not unleashing what could be a very productive pass rush against a team that will likely give up a shit ton of sacks

Steve Johnson... I'd assume that would have been obvious since this entire thread has been about him and berry.

Interesting article on cut blocking from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:

"The block is illegal if it comes from behind a defender"

This is the kind of thing that won't let you "bounce back" from a 34 point loss at home to a scrub team. It sets the tome for the entire season. This is gonna be UGLY...

Looks like the 'helmet in front of the knee' that I was talking about only applies in the trenches where it's legal to cut from the side. I wasn't aware cutting from the side (which I'm totally opposed to) was only legal in the trenches.

That was an illegal block.
