I wouldn't go that far, especially for a team that's never made a run like that in what could be a brutal conference to get through, but it definitely makes a statement and could cause a domino effect with other teams looking to put the final pieces together for a run.

Bold move, the Avs made those trades for years and they mostly paid off... of course until they ran out of prospects and draft picks and became irrelevant for a decade.... but, I'm sure that won't happen here. :D

DaFace 02-28-2014 07:40 PM

Damn. That's a big trade.

Goddamn, people just bend over for Doug Armstrong. Love it.

Buffalo got prison raped in this deal. I would have been happy to send that package to Buffalo for Miller alone - getting Ott back as well? Didn't have to give up a Schwartz, Tarasenko, Rattie, Jaskin, etc?

Pure theft.

Carrier from what I under stand is similar to Jaskin/Rattie, but not as far along in development.

Sabres also get the Blues 2014 pick if the Blues make the WCF or resign Miller.

Rams Fan 02-28-2014 10:11 PM

Or this could turn into the 2000 POs all over again and the Blues will be in the same place they were from 2001-2010,

I don't get it.

The Blues' Achilles Heel the past few seasons has been a lack of offense. Goaltending and defense has been their strength. A Thomas Vanek or even a Matt Moulson would have made a more considerable difference for the Blues.

If St. Louis draws LA again in the playoffs, is Ryan Miller that key piece to push them over the hump against Jonathan Quick? I don't see it.

I agree. I'm surprised by it all personally.

Granted, I'm saying this on the heels of back to back shutouts, but the Blues are 2nd in the league this year in goals per game. Offense is not the problem.

I would agree that defense has been our strength, but goaltending? The numbers look good, but anyone who's watched this team regularly knows that both Halak and Elliott have a penchant for giving up the soft goal in the postseason - when 1 goal games are the norm.

Like Army said last night, (and I think he's being kind to Jaro) it may only be a 5% upgrade, but it's an upgrade. And Ott fits this team perfectly. Hitch knows him well, and he's a psycho on the ice - exactly what you want in the playoffs. Going back to 2009, the top two centers in hits delivered?

Steve Ott and Davis Backes.

This team got a lot nastier, and a lot harder to score on - while getting rid of a goalie they weren't going to sign, an overpaid, underachieving forward and some picks - not giving up any young talent.

And with all that said? Army may not be done.

Blues score 4 in the 3rd. Lead 4-2 with under 1:00 to play.

Might have been the worst officiated game I've ever seen. Brutal calls/no calls against both sides. Not sure why Don Van Massenhoven still has a job - he's been terrible for decades.

Why Not? 03-03-2014 04:58 AM

I was at this game. Easily the worst officiated game perhaps in any sport I have ever seen. Yes, it was that bad. The open ice trip no call that set up the Blues 4th goal was almost unfathomable.

That being said, you can't give up 4 3rd period goals. Something is not right w the Coyotes this year. Not sure if it's due to the team ownership getting settled, meaning no more "us vs the world" mentality or if it's Mike Smith coming back to probably his average. Anyway, their not gonna make the post season this year.

Sorry DaFace, I've been watching hockey but haven't been on here all that much lately. Damn you Dave Ramsey and your 2nd Quadrant stuff.

Anyways, I thought the Avs were better than the Kings the first game back, but that's hockey.

Now the Kings are rolling. I'm hoping we add Moulson or Vanek at the deadline, but would hate to part with young guys like King/Toffoli. Either way, the Kings will more than likely push to add a sniper...which with improved play from Dustin Brown and recent head-standing by Quick, makes the Kings a pretty tough out in the playoffs.

I liked the Blues' move for Miller. And wow, is the West better than the East or what? Dang.
