Apparently HBO is scouting desert in Spain for a battle scene, and moved a large battle scene out of Iceland to another location because it kept growing in scale to the point that there weren't enough daylight hours in fall/winter to film the whole thing.

It looks like season 5 is moving firmly into unpublished territory.

WOW (supposedly) begins with the battle of Mereen and the battle at the Wall, both of which he'd originally planned to include in DWD. I'd assume that's what those are.

With any luck book 6 might be published by the point they air.

I hope it means 2 things:

-TWOW is coming soon

-It is ASOS-esque in its amount of action, so they're not worried about losing big things from season 6.

There have been rumors about this fall, but I think next spring/summer is more likely. I think he's further along than people realize. A number of the chapters in WOW were actually written for inclusion in earlier books but moved to book 6. He's already unloaded a dozen or more chapters on his website or at live events. I'd be surprised if we don't have it sometime in 2015.
