We had a thread about that a couple of nights ago. Paying at the pump is the way to go.

One problem - last week the wife and I were out having pizza. They had Sam Adams on tap so I ordered one. Now, I don't drink much any more, and when I do it's generally sipping expensive scotch at home. This was the first time I'd drank beer out since I had quit. As soon as I'd swallowed my first mouthful (Sam Adams on tap is wonderful, BTW) the cigarette demon said HEY fuckER I'M STILL HERE AND YOU CAN'T DRINK BEER WITH A SMOKE, DAMMIT! GET ME A MARLBORO NOW! Oh my God it was like someone walked up and punched me. Now, I was at a non-smoking restaurant, and the urge was long gone by the time I left, but I don't know what I'd have done if there had been somebody sitting there smoking. That would have been tough.

The moral of the story - cigarette demon is still lurking. It will try to hit you over the head with a bottle (or glass) of beer, so be ready for it.

Cig demon is better than Coke Demon coming around??

That's nearly 10 years gone now. Coke demon is little more than a bad memory.

It was easier to quit coke. Of course, when I quit coke, there weren't ten people freebasing outside the door of my office building every morning when I went to work. Hard to get away from cigarette smoke. Well, not so much anymore.

OK.... this is more for me than for the planet BB....... but what better thread.... I just made it through week 1!!!! And I made it through my most difficult test yet! Poker night..... I've been dreading playing poker without lighting up a cig, and I did it tonight!! It may sound stupid, but this has been worrying me for weeks....

Thanks to everybody posting in this thread!! I know I have a long way to go before I can brag about 7 smoke-free months, but fucking baby steps....

Thanks all.......... you have helped......

Best advice I can give - GUM. Not nicotine gum, just regular gum (I use Trident, so it's good for the teeth, too). Replace your oral fixation with chewing instead of smoking.

Good luck. Poker night must have been a bitch. I would have personally sworn that off for a while. Be careful. Cigarette demon definitely plays cards.

A week is significant, Fish. Good job, man.

I've been chewing the shit out of these Tea Tree Australian Chewing Sticks..... basically fancy toothpicks soaked with tea tree oil, cinnamon, peppermint, and spearmint.... I highly recommend them!! Made by Thursday Plantation Co .

It's been a big help for the oral fixation...(insert joke here)...

I've actually caught myself taking them in and out of my mouth (insert joke #2 here) just like a cig......

And yes, poker night was hell....... of course everyone else was smoking and giving me shit for quiting...... I feel I made a major accomplishment.

Thanks again for the support... whether ya knew it or not......

You're welcome. Good luck.

And those toothpick things rock - I just don't know where to get them.
