Unfortunately, this seems like the only approach we're will to go, and Manning trash is far, far better than Orton trash. Largely because Manning has proven to be a noteworthy tipper.
So that's why I'm of three minds about all of this. Old, trash, and tips. Those are the key components of the trifecta.

So, you don't like the idea of Manning, but you would take Manning as the lesser of several other possible evils and you appreciate good food service, correct? Yep. One mind. Just confused.
As for your number 1 thing; See? I said the same, exact thing about a week ago and was mercilessly attacked by posters right and left attempting to chop off my tongue and my penis. But, I pretty much agree. I called it Montana v2 and I think that's pretty much correct. I want us to acquire and develop our own quarterback.
Of course, I also expressed concern regarding Manning's overall ability to perform given the muscle/nerve atrophy he's suffered. And, for that, I was greeted by people who wanted to attack my nuts with a weed-eater.
As for your number 2 thing; That's the problem in a band shell. We guessed wrong on Cassel, hired Palko, drafted Stanzi, and in a fit of desperation, acquired Orton. People can say that there have been no other "options" until the cows come home, but in an urban culture, who raises cattle these days? Surely, the Executive Of The Century could swing some kind of deal for a damn quarterback from someplace, can he not? Other teams seem to be capable of doing that.
To me, this is more of the same in a different dress. I don't know how, where, or why, but the Chiefs are freaking cursed when it comes to quarterbacks.
