I know there are 'other' expenses that go into bringing products to market, but that is quite a markup since they are selling these phones to providers for $600.

This is a tough one to solve because it happens with all the major manufacturers. Galaxy S3 is about the same. The only reason they get away with it is because of the subsidies the carriers are willing to pay. As more and more people move to no contract plans the subsidies will dry up and you'll start to see pricing fall to reasonable levels. My guess would be 3-5 years before we see it though.

The memory thing is what seems like a slap in the face to their customers. Why does it cost an extra hundred dollars to go up 16 gigs of memory? And for that matter why does an 8 gig iPod touch cost two hundred bucks? That thing is ONLY used for its memory. I can buy a 32 gig micro sd for thirty bucks! Hello!?!

Not being able to add your own memory does seem crazy, and backward.

My wife's iPhone 5 is having issues less than 2 weeks after purchase. The phone does not recognize the SIM card. Turns out this is a pretty widespread problem, according to Sprint customer service and Sprint forums. And no clear solution at this time either. Anyone here having this issue?

Sprint is using a sim card for the 5?

guess so. The wife just went to the Sprint store to have them replace the card, which they did. Seems to be working now. The phone rep from Sprint said that this is a widespread problem that both Sprint and Apple know about.

EDIT: sounds like the problem is prevalent at both AT&T and Verizon as well, according to the forums...

Just pop the SIM out and back in restart. Should fix the problem.

Sprint and Verizon are using the SIM because its an LTE device even though Sprint has about .00000001 LTE coverage. Verizon had a SIM in the 4s because it was a global phone but it never actually got activated unless you went overseas.

So apparently the phone is a giant POS.

Scratch and cosmetic issues right out of the box
Camera problems
Light leakage on white models
Shitty battery
Shitty Wi-fi
Battery comes loose inside phone and makes rattling sound
No SIM problem
Some phones just refuse to activate
and today it was announced that even though the phone is in Wi-fi you still get charged data as if it was in 3G/4G

HAHA looks like Apple really dropped the ball on this one but it wont matter. SELL ANOTHER 5 MILLION

Haven't encountered a single one of these problems.

Well nevermind then. I guess multiple tech sites, blogs, and several media outlets are just making this shit up since YOU have never encountered any of these problems. My bad.

You love to generalize don't you, you dumb shit?

I said I didn't encounter them. Since you like to constantly cry about apple when you're not being a stupid ****ing troll about Cassel, I'll let you carry on and act like everyone is having problems with their IPhone 5.

We get it, you aren't buying one.

Doesnt matter

I originally bought a 64 Gig black model and it was perfect, outside of the fact that I didnt ever need that much storage. I thought I'd trade it back in within the 14 days and get a 32 Gig black and everything would be fine, and it has been except for one thing that the first one didn't do. It gets pretty warm, not hot, just warm, I heard resetting the phone on itunes will fix it if its a software issue but it bums me out that I took a chance to get $100 back and I came out slightly on bottom. I can take this one back if it doesn't fix itself but I don't want to be that customer... On the first one my battery was pretty shitty at first, I overcharged it like a mofo and it fixed itself which was surprising so I'm hoping lightning will strike twice.
