Passan's source says a deal with the Padres is close, though the Marlins have also been talking to the Royals about Maybin, and it appears the door might not be closed between those two teams. Alex Gordon's name is being mentioned in the discussions with Kansas City, but it's not clear who the Padres would be giving up. Stay tuned.

Intriguing

What's going on with Maybin? Why the decision to move him?

Sure-Oz 11-13-2010 03:42 PM

What do you guys think of Maybin for Gordon?? I say do it...

Sure-Oz 11-13-2010 03:43 PM

Maybin going to SD....

Sure-Oz 11-13-2010 03:45 PM

Dayton couldnt give up 2 relievers for Maybin??? wtf..................that is what SD gave up

Sure-Oz 11-13-2010 03:47 PM

The Marlins will receive relievers Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica in exchange for the center fielder, Krasovic tweets. (per mlbtraderumors)

I am very very frustrated at Dayton for not topping this deal.....what the ****

Maybin's all sizzle, no steak.

Kid has all the tools in the world, but he's never had an approach at the plate. He goes up there and swings hard a few times and hopes he hits it. He doesn't have a consistent swing path and doesn't know how to use his speed.

That said, he's a major leage defender even if he never improves a bit.

I'm surprised KC didn't try to top that deal, but at this point I think Maybin's more name than production.

Sigh....that is f'n pathetic that we were interested in Maybin and were not able to top that weak deal.

no, you mean not willing to top that deal. We obviously were able. DM's opinion of Maybin's value was apparently considerably less than San Diego's opinion.

The same man who signed Kendall for 2 for $6M...and thus the heavy dose of skepticism.

oh don't get me wrong, this wasn't an "in DM we trust" reply, I'm just making it clear that its not like we didn't have the resources to go get him. More like DM said "eh... he doesn't look like he's all that to me, I'll pass."

No, I agree with you.

Truth be told, though, I'm a bit worried that we're (at least at this point) sitting on all of our prospects because not all of them will pan out. We have so many legit prospects and, luckily, few have shown blemishes, so now would be the time to sell high on those with the least chance of being true difference makers.

Justin Upton possibly available: http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/11/16/k...-justin-upton/

Keith Law tweeted that the Royals would be a sensible trade partner b/c of the depth of our system and the need for a player like Upton. Personally, I would the whole thing.

The problem with the Royals system right now is that we aren't actually good trade partners with teams because of how our system stacks up.The price for Upton would be high obviously, and if you look historically at trades you are best trading off high upside/raw guys and we just don't have any of that. The Tigers traded for cabrera with 2 really really projectable guys who had done nothing in the minors to that point and thus offered a really low risk to them. I wouldn't want to trade any of our big 3 hitters because 2 of them could be starting by the end of next year and you don't trade away a potential Buster Posey for a right fielder. Then all you are left with is pitching prospects which we desperately need. I wouldn't do it if I was DM.
