Rany wrote the first of what will soon be a flurry of articles lauding the Royals minor league system.

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/...as-city-royals

Quote:

This was the year I've been waiting for since I came of age as a Royals fan in the late 1980s. This was the year that the Royals finally put together the best farm system in baseball, for the first time in...well, quite possibly ever.

It's been a heady experience. And while it hasn't made the losing at the major-league level easier to endure, it has certainly made the losing easier to ignore.
Quote:

You can make the case that both Moustakas and Hosmer rank among the top ten prospects in baseball. You can also make the case that neither of them ranks as the best prospect in the Royals system.
Quote:

They may have more high-quality left-handed starters in their farm system right now than the team has developed in its 41-year history - combined.
Quote:

These seven prospects - three hitters and four left-handed starters - are all likely Top 100 prospects, and by themselves would give the Royals arguably the best farm system in baseball. But what's scary is that this only the first wave of talent to come through. If the Royals released all seven players today - don't give them any ideas - their farm system would still probably rank in the middle of the pack.
Quote:

There's enough talent here that you could fashion an entire projected roster for the 2013 or 2014 Royals without using a single player who's currently in the majors.

Anyway, that's the dream. The reality is that prospects fail. They get hurt, they stop improving, they turn into Alex Gordon. It happens.

But not, usually, to all of them. And that's the promise of the Royals' farm system today - that not all of these guys will pan out, but some will.
Quote:

The Royals' system isn't just the best in baseball for this year; it compares favorably to the best farm systems of the past decade.

BA also said even if you exclude our top five prospects, we would still have a middle of the pack farm system.

We have some sick depth.

Dunn to the White Sox. ****s. Would have been a great signing for the Royals, especially two years ago.

Trade Zack for a young established major league player & two more top prospects who would fit into the top 10 & you have one of the sickest minor league systems in history.

jbwm89 12-02-2010 06:35 PM

God I hope some of these prospects pan out. I just wanted to watch a meaningful Royals game at the end of the season.

Nice chunk of Royals talk from a baseball prospectus podcast recently. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/ar...rticleid=12497

Skip to the 47-minute mark, a few minutes of some non-Royals fans trying to figure out if this is the best minor league system to have ever existed in recent memory, a few minutes of Washington prospects (who cares) then they bring in a Royals fan (Rany) to go back to talking about the Royals for a half hour.

Yeah, about time they got some pop in that lineup.

tk13 12-04-2010 06:26 PM

All this fawning over our minor league system makes me nervous. I don't know why. It seems to divide into two camps, people who are firmly positive and waiting for it. Then another group of people totally mocking it and saying we've heard this before. Which is and isn't true, obviously. We've had some good prospects before, but not quite like this. And it's not like just a bunch of Royals homers... you've got baseball people from all over the map who would normally mock the Royals talking about how this is the mother lode of a farm system. It would be an unbelievable accomplishment for all of these guys to bust. I guess that goes along with what those guys in the podcast say... that the Royals might have to try pretty hard to screw this up.
