Sign-and-trades rarely happen in the NFL, so don't take this one to the bank just yet. If Bush fails to work out an agreement with the Dolphins, it's still possible that he will remain in New Orleans at a reduced rate. Bush has the potential to be a matchup nightmare for a QB who can make adjustments at the line of scrimmage, but that's not Chad Henne. This trade would take Miami out of the mix for Ahmad Bradshaw, though a bigger back like Marion Barber could still be pursued as insurance for early-down rookie Daniel Thomas. Shit. If the Dolphins get Reggie Bush AND Kyle Orton, they might actually be respectable enough to be trouble in the AFC East.

Filed to ESPN: Washington traded DT Albert Haynesworth to the New England Patriots for a fifth-round pick in 2013.

I just heard this on the news. On the one hand, Do Not Like, headcase, waste of talent, assclown, et cetera. On the other hand... If Darth Hoodie can get productivity (albeit briefly) out of headcases like Corey Dillon, Bryan Cox, and Randy Moss, who am I to question him. (Sometimes it turns out that playing for a Winner helps their attitude.)

Don't forget the Belichick/Jim Schwartz connection. Schwartz, now the HC of the Lions, was Haynesworth's DC in Tennessee. I'm sure Belichick checked with his old buddy before doing this transaction.

Personally, I think Haynesworth is a POS, but we've seen Belichick get some great value out of some of these guys on a limited basis, so who knows.

i think they said the Pats were only on the hook for about 5 mill

the redskins give him a 100 mill contract, get nothing out of him, trade him for a 5th and eat all of his contract but 5 mill....

jesus

I also heard the $5MM number. No idea if the contract ends after this year, but presumably Pats can cut him if he doesn't work out for whatever reason.

Pats run a BASE 34, but play a ton of sub packages and 43 also. I read that they were in base 34 last year less than 50% of the time.

And with the worst third down percentage in the NFL last year, I'm sure BB will do what it takes to make Haynesworth effective. As Mike Reiss said, BB is one of the best of fitting schemes to players, and not forcing players into schemes that don't work well for them.

He's not going to revamp the defense for Hayensworth, but the bottom line is he doesn't have to. 43 and sub packages are already a very signfiicant part of the Pats defense.

I heard yesterday, or maybe I read it here, that the Redskins were prepared to give Haynesworth away for a ham sandwich to keep him from going to Philly.

BB topped the ham sandwich offer with a 5th in 2013, apparently... :D

Jets are more than $10 million UNDER salary cap, according to two NFL capologists. Might make the Jets the favorite to land Nnamdi Asomugha.
