Clearwater with a very 'future' oriented draft. It was a little too needs based for my liking, but I feel like there are some great long-term gets in there.

21 - Kyle Long, G
Mean, nasty, athletic G who just went one on one with Geno Atkins in his first ever NFL game and kept Atkins off the scoreboard. Patches the biggest hole on my O-line.

56 - Margus Hunt, DE
Just a physical freak. His technique is still trash but he managed credible performance in camp. Give him a season and by 2014 I think he'll be a legit 8-10 sack guy replacing Michael Johnson. He's just too long and too strong to not be a presence out there.

71 - DJ Swearinger, SS
A couple of old safeties in Houston with Reed and Manning. Swearinger's a talented cat that will hit hard. He'll be Pollard's replacement by 2015 at the very worst and maybe as early as next year. Something of a value pick as well.

117 - DeVonte Holloman, WLB
This was a bit of a reach but I'm a sucker for skills-sets. Holloman is a converted safety who had two interceptions from the Will spot in pre-season action. The guy just has a nose for the football. He's not likely to be an asset against the run or a plus pass-rusher, but he'll be a great coverage backer from the Will.

119 - Michael Buchanan, DE
Probably another reach, but again the skills won me over. He has the ability to be a disruptive pass-rusher and the Patriots are pretty good at developing D-Lineman. He's getting regular season snaps as a 7th round pick so they see something they like there.

152 - Quanterus Smith, DE
Might be my favorite pick of the draft. He tore an ACL in November and it caused his draft stock to fall. Before that, however, he was leading the nation with 12.5 sacks and still ended in the top 10. He abused DJ Fluker in their game against Alabama, with 3 sacks going against the future 1st rounder. He was 2nd team all-conference as a JR despite starting barely half the season in 2011. He's on the come. I won't get anything from him this season as the Broncos put him on the IR to let his knee fully recover, but in 2014 he'll be replacing Dumerville and tearing it up.

I had Quanterus on my draft board for the whole back of the draft, but couldn't pull the trigger and wait a year. But with a late pick it's likely a good investment.

Holloman was another guy who was on my draft board, and I was hoping to take him late.

Will quickly join the receiving corp with Mike Wallce, and Julian Edelman, also helping in return game.
33 Topeka Tyrannicide Johnathan Cyprien
Takes over as starting strong safety as Johnathan Babineaux is released.
57 Topeka Tyrannicide Jordan Mills
Will start at RT with Baluga recovering on the IR.
66 Topeka Tyrannicide Bennie Logan
Will add depth to the nose behind Mount Cody.
81 Topeka Tyrannicide Logan Ryan
Nicely adds depth to the RCB postion behind Carlos Rogers
105 Topeka Tyrannicide Corey Lemonier
Will add depth to the OLB and replace Edgar Jones as he is released.
114 Topeka Tyrannicide Johnathan Franklin
Will compete for carries in a stable of running backs with no clear #1
129 Topeka Tyrannicide Zac Stacy
Will compete for carries in a stable of running backs with no clear #1
153 Topeka Tyrannicide Vince Williams
A late pick, but will get valuable playing time at ILB.

I like the Williams pick a lot. If Cyprien was a FS I would've nabbed him early.

24 Pittsburgh Tacos DT Sharrif Floyd
Floyd becomes and immediate starter with Justin Bannan, Earl Mitchell gets prime sub time.
48 Pittsburgh Tacos LB Manti Te'o
Manti looks to find a place with Dannelle Ellerbe and Paul Posluszny in a 4-3, with Phillip Wheeler and Russell Allen flanking.
72 Pittsburgh Tacos RB Christine Michael
Michael becomes the understudy and main backup to MVP Alfred Morris.
93 Pittsburgh Tacos CB B. W. Webb
For a team that had Ras-I Dowling starting a year ago, Webb represents the future behind Jabari Greer and a young complement to Richard Sherman.
96 Pittsburgh Tacos DE Mike Catapano
Had to go early to keep him from a bunch of Chiefs fans, did you see what I saw?
120 Pittsburgh Tacos TE Dion Sims
TEs are the new black, a sixth round pick on a potential starter with Keller out for the season makes Sims a value pick.
144 Pittsburgh Tacos LB A. J. Klein
I will tell myself "Have patience with Luke Kuechly V2.0"...

Great draft. I might like your draft the best of all of them so far from a pure talent perspective.

I was glad to get Cyprien. I was down to ZERO players at SS after Babineaux was released by the Titans. Williams also really helped. I was going to take Phillip Thomas to hold onto for a while, but then he was taken in front of me, so I went back to try to find some sort of an ILB, low and behold...found one that just got a shot at starting to replace Foote that I had missed earlier.

It was mentioned that the 0 year contract players that we didn't re-up will be able to be re-signed when someone wins a bid on them for 1 more year than the winning bid....but, will these players count as being on our roster up to that point?

Wondering because right now I am way over the roster size limit, and wouldn't be able to bid on a FA until I make cut downs I believe. Wondering if we are going to have to go ahead and cut those guys loose to make bids if we are over roster limits, or if guys that are on 0 year won't count against those limits until later?

Who'd you have at RB last season? You should be stocked up now.

Cedric Peerman, Andre Brown, and Justin Forsett.. Brown missed i believe 6 games due to injury, Peerman missed a couple as well.

Last year we had to accelerate the system. For the current offseason, you don't have a roster limit. You can sign free agents throughout the period and only have a cutdown at the end of the NFL season.

We'll then have a second free agency period after the cutdown where you can shuffle your roster by picking up guys who got cut. In that phase the 53-man limit will be in effect.

I was getting ready to send you an MJD offer but saw you'd drafted Lacy. I'm still not sure I'm sold on him (he was pretty damn bad last year until he picked on an overmatched ND linebacking corps), but he should be servicable at worst.

Here's an overview of free agency going forward:

1300+ yds, 17 TDs with a 6.5 avg per rush is bad? He was first in the SEC for Yards from Scrimmage. That's splitting carries with Yeldon even.

You are usually pretty damned spot on with your takes, but on this one I'm not following.

Dude, stop already. You're killing me. I'm pretty hard on myself as it is so you don't have to add gasoline to the fire. :deevee:
So I slept through my draft picks. It worked out good in one of my "other" leagues.
Computer drafted Aaron Rodgers, Colin Kapernick & RGIII.

This has been a bad year.

;)

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-11-2013 11:03 AM

At any rate, Having a kid like Ball as the #2 option is nice.. All he did was rush for 1800 yards and 22 TD's last year.

dude scored 83 TD's in his 4 years as a Badger. He even threw for one :D

Wow....you're right on the numbers.

I watched him play a couple times and he was just looked dumpy and slow to me. And he was way too quick to do that spin move thing that I just don't think will work at this level.

Looks like he torched Mizzou, but I was at a wedding that weekend so I didn't see it.

I stand corrected - his numbers certainly don't support my perception of him. And maybe Yeldon did him a bit of a disservice in my eyes because whenever I saw Yeldon out there, his burst just jumped off the television and Lacy didn't look nearly that impressive.

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-11-2013 11:12 AM

You're right on Yeldon... that kid is really good.

Fansy the Famous Bard 09-11-2013 12:25 PM

CPNoa, love the trade offer, however I run a 3-4 defense
