And it's not like just a bunch of Royals homers... you've got baseball people from all over the map who would normally mock the Royals talking about how this is the mother lode of a farm system. It would be an unbelievable accomplishment for all of these guys to bust. I guess that goes along with what those guys in the podcast say... that the Royals might have to try pretty hard to screw this up.

This makes me giddy, just to think about it. Bring it on!

Nice chunk of Royals talk from a baseball prospectus podcast recently. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/ar...rticleid=12497

Skip to the 47-minute mark, a few minutes of some non-Royals fans trying to figure out if this is the best minor league system to have ever existed in recent memory, a few minutes of Washington prospects (who cares) then they bring in a Royals fan (Rany) to go back to talking about the Royals for a half hour.

I keep thinking about the hype this system will get if a greinke trade goes through and we add Martin Perez, Jurickson Profar, etc to our list. I think some would start to really think this could be the best farm system on paper since the minor leagues became a real focus.

I heard Moustakas is fatter than Butler.

That can't be good.

I'm definitely more in the "positive" camp than anything else, but there have also been just enough hiccups to reinforce the viewpoint of the pessimists: Moose sucked ass in '09, Montgomery has had recurring injury problems, Hosmer, literally, couldn't see when we drafted him, Crow has been disastrous, etc.

Sheer numbers should be in our favor, though.

Aaron Crow is like in his late 20's. He should have been pitching in the majors years ago.

bust

Point is a 24 year old with a era of 6 on a single A team being listed as our 9th best prospect doesn't inspire much hope.

Really? Compare him to the 9th best prospect of any/all MLB farms.

I have time.

First, I hated that pick at the time b/c I wouldn't touch a bitch who sat out a year. That said:

There are a number of reasons why ERA at the minor league level might not mean shit. 1.) working on a specific pitch 2.) working on mechanics

Crow's stuff is, by almost all accounts, superior to Hochevar's, so it will be up to the coaching staff, like the slider coach, to get him to perform.

What could they possibly know? He's in his late 20's.

That's all that matters.

The way the internet is these days has brought about 1000% the attention by fans to the baseball draft. Not that these first round picks are always going to work out but teams need to realize they are going to get bombed by fans when they pick based on signability.

Not saying that Crow was a signability pick (I would have to look at the guys selected adjacent to him)....

But I agree. I groaned when they picked him.
