I think the Patriots may be reading too many of their own press clippings this time.

The Patriots pass-rush was already pathetic before they cut their most productive sacker, Tully Banta-Cain.
Read that again, and realize how pathetic that is, for a team with Super Bowl aspirations.
I'm reading on PatriotsPlanet that AH's base $5.4M is NOT guaranteed on day one because he skipped last season's training camp. If that's the case, then I assume he'll be renegotiating a lower and more cap-friendly deal.
It's a one-year flier for a paltry 5th-round pick on a guy who was recently a dominating defender and can help the team at a position they need it badly. It's like going on a cheap date with a supermodel who's supposedly a headcase; if you get a BJ that night, awesome, and if not, no big deal, it was still worth the chance.
The Patriots have a strong HC and strong locker room. AH will not pose the distraction there that he did in Washington. With the Redskins, he was the lead clown in what was already an obvious three-ring circus. With New England, if he answers his cellphone or reads the paper in meetings he'll be back outside with the door locked behind him and his football career essentially over.
Again, I don't like the move, and prefer he wasn't on the team, but I can see from their vantage point why they're trying it.
