Wonder if Padgett will play with a chip on his shoulder and dominate? Could be interesting....

Hansbrough vs. Padgett will be the most awkward display of atheticism between two players that you'll ever see.

Padgett is waay overrated. Hansbrough will eat his lunch.

I thought it was a great analogy, but actually it's flawed.

If the math final is comprehensive, even if you had a C- all semester, getting the best grade on the final goes a long way in proving you're the best student in the class. If you weren't paying attention all semester, you certainly can't fake it for one test.

And not that I need to finish the analogy, but if you're mediocre all season, winning your 'final' only means you won your final, not that the rest of the season was just a fluke. It's the other way around... the final was the fluke, because you're comparing one game to an entire season. It's exactly what you said, you're the best at that point in time. Not overall.

I don't think George Mason was one of the top 4 teams in the nation a couple of years ago, but they were certainly one of the hottest teams in the nation. It goes back to what BWillie said... peaking at the right time, a hot goalie, a cold shooting streak by an opponent, bats dying in the playoffs... stuff happens, and it's not always the best team that wins.

See the 97 Chiefs for further explanation.

I agree.

But, I also agree with a reader's opinion from SI this week...
"I find it hard to believe that you'd give PoY honors to Psycho-T, a one-dimensional role player who can't dribble, stroke the three or mid-range jumper and is not a deft passer. He is defintely top 10, but his supporting cast has more to do with Carolina's record than Hansbrough. Swap him for Beasley and UNC arguably goes perfect, while KSU's flattens further."

He has a ton of energy and tenacity, but his game is almost solely based on getting to the free throw line (I've seen him get off to some really slow starts because he throws lame ducks towards the basket while flailing around but the refs don't call the foul... he adjusts, starts aiming for the basket, and ends up with a decent night) and looks terribly awkward when he has the ball.

I'm not one to go around saying every good player in the country is overrated because they get a lot of press... but with him, I just don't see it.

Rock Chalk Jayhawk! Davidson is a nice cinderella story, but I'm confident that our guards can contain Curry and we shouldn't have much trouble!

Mr. Kotter 03-28-2008 11:34 PM

Keep Curry from goin' assrape Apeshit nuts, and we are headed to the final four.

I say Curry does okay against us, but he appears human for the first time in the tourney on Sunday. ;)

KCChiefsMan 03-28-2008 11:44 PM

I'm not gonna read through this thread so I don't know if this has been mentioned or not.

But is it just me, or is it really fucked up that these games in detroit were played in a damn football stadium? I mean, it takes away from the atmosphere and it definately takes the crowd out of the game, which is what college basketball is all about! I mean, unless it's a packed house (which it wasn't even close) it's going to be quiet as a mouse in there! It's all about the NCAA making more money, selling more tickets, but come on!

I agree completely. I say it all the time to anyone who will listen. I'm sure he's a nice guy to have in the post, but what pisses me off is when I am told by every idiot with a microphone that I have to love his heart.

Just because he falls on the floor all the time and flails his arms and HAPPENS to have the words, "North" and "Carolina" on his chest doesn't make him a great player. I'd still take him on my team, but Beasley is BY FAR the best player in the country HANDS DOWN.

Total & complete BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Dalai Lama himself should be used to protest this abuse of college basketball. I like the carma: 1988, Pontiac Silver Dome. THEY BOTH SUCK! As does every other domed stadium in the world. But that's just me.

you guys are lettin your hate cloud your judgement. he's FAR more skilled than you have portrayed here, but I do understand backlash-love, both collectively, and individually, which UNC and Hansbrough are receiving in spades right now. his "supporting cast" has at times this season provided very little support at all.

I wish we could bury all this resentment, but I'd be mad too if I had lost both a HOF coach, and an all-time college great to the same school. the Kansas-Carolina connection is too deep, and the class both schools have traditionally presented is beyond any fan-hate. IMO, based on what I've seen, you guys have the best team this year, but as you guys know, you can never tell how a Danny Green/Rush will match up, or a Chalmers/Lawson until they actually get it on. I hope we meet, and may the best team win. if it happens to be KU, I will be pulling for the Jayhawks, but there are some damn good teams left in this thing.

Nice post. The only thing about a potential KU-UNC matchup I regret is that KU fans themselves can't be on the floor to provide their own "chip on a shoulder." We may say we've forgotten Roy, but we haven't, and we all pretty much root against him. One thing I'll disagree with you on, and this is assuming the rumors were true, that Dean talked to Roy about coming to Carolina during the Final Four. Did that cause us to shoot 50% from the stripe? Probably not, but I'm sure it was in his head, and you just don't do things like that to your alma mater.

I compare Roy to an ex who cheated on you. The person means nothing to you NOW but at one point there was love and then there was hate so there is no reason for me to root for him EVER, and there is reason for me to root against him.

As for Hansborough, I wouldn't mind if he had decided on KU, trust me. But the love the media gives him is ridiculous. He plays hard, but he doesn't look like a "Player of the Year" to me. He reminds me of a less skilled, more physical Nick Collison.

Not to mention the ACC was WAY overrated this year (oh no, did I just say that? I must not know anything about basketball!). But whatever, it's status quo for the national media.

Sure-Oz 03-29-2008 08:23 AM

my bracket went to hell last night, from tied for 2nd to 6th

well, I can interpret that as a back-handed compliment to Roy. for the same reasons we like him and he's a good fit, are the same reasons KU fans did. and I'll repeat, if you let the "media-love" obscure Hansbrough's talents, (even if justifiable), then as a true hoops fan you are terribly mis-guided in thinking he's just a well-hyped "hustler"...think more along the lines of a Dave Cowens, with maybe a couple of more tools in the tool-kit.

and the ACC WAS over-rated this year--I hope it's not a trend, but imo, the overall coaching, talent & teams are better in the Big East.

That is what you get for sucking off UW....

Wisconsin sucks and so does the style the Big 10 plays... You have to score points to win...
