He's a fat, calm version of Herm.

Herm was a snake oil salesman. Crennel may not be a good head coach, but I am guessing his IQ is quite a bit higher than Herm's. Nothing of substance ever came out of Herm's mouth.

Possibly

Maybe he learned from his mistakes in Cleveland. We will see.

It's not like they were extrememly disciplined under the golf pro.

Bewbies 01-07-2012 12:51 PM

**** me. And I was hoping to be excited about next season.

One thing that is encouraging is that Romeo was the coach at Cleveland that traded up into the 1st to take Quinn. I don't know how much input he had into it, but they were aggressive addressing the QB position even though Quinn didn't pan out. I can live with that mistake.

well i guess it's "On With the Hoopla".

Messier 01-07-2012 12:58 PM

Are there any new reports on this? Do we know this is happening?

ShowtimeSBMVP 01-07-2012 12:58 PM

ArrowheadAddictPatrick Allen

Michael Lombardi reporting Crennel is already looking for an offensive coordinator and is calling coaches across the league.

From a game management standpoint, yes.

I think we're getting a better version of norv turner with a herm-esque game management.

Why bother?

Crow hasn't been consumed from the first go-round with Pioli's hire, the trade for Cassel, etc.

But it will damn sure be demanded the first time we beat a mediocre, poorly-coached team.

Why the hell would New England trade for Matt Cassel?

I believed then what I still believe today. Herm was a great coach to have at just the right time. This team was moving in a very good trajectory because of him. He wasn't a guy who could take the team to a super bowl. But he took a ton of shit he didn't deserve. He got dealt the worst hand in the NFL.

Herm was chosen before Vermiel ever left. There really wasn't a coaching search at all. Herm was garbage.

Of course he settled for the familiar.

People can say, "there were no must-hire guys out there" all they want.

Were Mike McCarthy, Sean Payton and Mike Smith "must have" guys?

Hell no.

Not sure why they even bothered interviewing anyone else and wasting their time - we all knew they'd settle on RAC.

This guy is going to make Herm Edwards look like Todd Haley in the discipline department.

This mother****ing this.

This feels like when we hired Gunther after Marty left.

My thoughts exactly. This is Gunther 2.0. Unless we see an attempt to draft a QB this year and hire a decent OC, we will be doing this in a couple years. This isn't progress. FML

Well, difference being that Romeo is a terrific coordinator. Gunther is not. But yeah, I don't think internal hires are ever really a great idea when the prvious coach was fired.

I've said before... Herm shouldn't have been hired. Tha was another version of Peterson croneyism. But he's a much better coach than he gets credit for and the team is in a much better place because of him.

'Hamas' Jenkins 01-07-2012 01:13 PM

There are a lot of smart people out there who can't lead people. Some don't because they don't have any people skills. I see it a lot with fellow teachers because they want to be the friends of students, not realizing that you can't gain their respect if you let them walk all over you, no matter how much you know.

Haley was the former. Crennel is the latter.
