Right, but who gives a shit about what they did in 2012.
I don't care that Alex Smith was carried to his only playoff victories by the best defense in the NFL at time, and then he beat the Saints. He didn't do that with the Chiefs and I am only concerned with paying him a shitload of money for what he can and will do in future.
I also don't care that Andy Dalton was able to noodle arm 80 percent of his stats thanks to AJ Green, two athletic TEs and a bunch of other weapons that I think any of us could throw for 20 touchdowns with off the street. I don't care that he did that as a rookie or last year, then faced a real defense in the playoffs and got beat down unlike having to play the old, broken down, slow, shitty, overpaid defenses in the NFC North. I care about paying Andy Dalton about what he can do for me in the future, and that's can he win even one smeasly shit ass wild card game for our franchise?
It's the same question, for the same tier of player
pay 18 million to cap strap the Chiefs with Alex Smith while not having the #1 defense in the NFL to carry him against good QBs and him not being Peyton Manning or Tom Brady to attract any NFL veterans to come chase a championship for cheap? Do I want to pay that?
pay 18 million to Andy Dalton so AJ Green and a bunch of other young freak athletes can pad his stats and then the Bengals watch half them walk out the door because they can't afford them thanks to Daltons contract? Do I want to pay that?
All for a couple 10-6 records and a Wild Card loss for both teams?
I don't know about that...
edit: I should preface this by saying I like both Alex Smith and Andy Dalton as players, and what they are paid now, or at reasonable contracts. I don't like them at Tony Romo, Jay Cutler, Joe Flacco type money just like I don't like those QBs at that money.
