Good gameplan last night not helping off of Forte. That dude can shoot and we gave him, what, one open look? Dude is a gamer though. I can do without guys jumping into defenders out on the floor to draw fouls, but he seems to have a good attitude and just plays. I kind of wish we had him.

100% agree about Ellis.

And yeah, Forte is a good player. But man that was some complete BS the way he jumped sideways into Oubre to get the foul. And you knew he would hit all 3 FTs. I didn't realize they allowed that kind of nonsense in college hoops.

Lzen 01-14-2015 04:33 PM

BTW, what the heck happened to Cliff's playing time in the second half last night?

I don't blame Forte for the play, but the refs got that call horribly wrong. That was some 2002 Chauncey Billups, Derrick Fisher bullshit.

Ridiculous calls like that set the tone for the entire game. It was just horribly reffed.

It does go on and it's a chump move. It needs to be a no call.

From where we were sitting at the game, it appeared part of the problem was Oubre's actions as Forte did his thing so to speak. Oubre's arms moved in a manner that all but insured a call from the ref from his visual perspective at that point. Oubre would have been well served to immediately have gone hands up to put all the origination of contact on Forte. Forte got his payback later on. There was one instance in particular where he got absolutely hammered going to the hole and the refs all swallowed their whistle. I don't think they took kindly to being baited like that earlier and it sorta backfired on Forte.

Self on Perry Ellis today:

He's got to go be a player that's aggressive and believe that he's a player. He needs to believe that he's the best player on the floor every night he takes the floor, because when he plays well, he is, and he's proven that.

I think he goes through -- I think Perry is going through a little bit of a situation where maybe we're winning and maybe it's okay for him to defer like he has in years past, because the end result has been okay. And that's no good for us. He's got to be a guy that is the most aggressive guy looking to score every night that we play. Even if he misses shots, he makes things happen if he's aggressive.

I don't think he's far off at all, and certainly his talent level is as good or as better as it's of been since he's been here. I just think there's a little bit going on with him from a confidence standpoint, or maybe from a mental standpoint that maybe he's rationalized that it's okay to be the way I am because the team is doing well, and I don't think it is.

I think he's got to be our go to guy, and I don't think he's far off. Wouldn't be surprised at him having a big game and a series of big games very soon. He remembers his misses where some guys don't remember their misses. He remembers his screw ups because he's conscientious, like you would want your son to be; where a lot of coaches, just assume not coach your son. They would rather have some guys that, you know, they can't remember their bad plays.

And I think that that's something that he's got to get better at. I think he's almost too sweet and too nice a kid at times when things are not going well and he rationalizes, well, we are doing fine, so it's okay to miss. But one thing that I worry about with our entire team is our body language. I don't think we have been a great body language team and I think Perry is one of those guys that can improve on that.

I think plays affect him too much. Perry to me is this, okay. You know how we say, coaches all the time, that sometimes winning never feels as good as losing feels bad. I think sometimes with players, sometimes they -- hey, making good plays, never feel as good as when you screw up. And I think that as a player, that's a bad way to be. Hey, don't remember your screw ups and every great play is an energy boost.

I think when there's expectations on you with things like that and things go well, well, this is what I'm supposed to be doing, as opposed to, man, this is great, God, I've never had so much fun. I think this that's kind of -- that's probably a bad analogy but I think that's something that's very correctible and I really see him taking off the last half of our season.

Bill is spot on to what everyone thinks about Ellis....

Silock 01-15-2015 04:29 PM

It's almost like Bill Self knows more about his basketball team than we do.

He's a coach and could probably make one heck of a sports psychologist as well.

Self is a great coach AND a great person....
KU is lucky to have him....

One thing that I really like seeing is Oubre and his steals.
He has such quick hands and is always knocking the ball free.
Reminds me of Mario and how quick he was......
