I got the wife this for Christmas but I plan to use it too. What do you guys use Dutch Ovens for?

Popcorn, chili, searing steak [high walls cut down on spatter]

Will do that next time. Making more Sunday. This was a trial run, and if I made more I would have eaten them all.

But boudin is not a pretty dish...

I wouldn't consider them to be pretty. Did you eat them as a meal? Looks like an appy to me.

They are more of an app. If I'd have made more, I'd have eaten them as dinner, which is why I stopped. :D

Soups, stews, chilis, roasts, braises, casseroles... I've made cobblers and even bread in mine.

You can use it for all kinds of things.

I think I'm gonna try to put together a chili in mine. Never had a dutch oven before.

My grandma gave me my grandpa's cast iron dutch oven at Christmas. Also a well-seasoned 8" pan.

Grandma rocks.

Grandmas are pretty awesome. My best cast iron came from her when she passed.

Enameled or no? If it's not enameled, you'll want to be careful what you put in there for a long time. Anything acidic over more than 30 minutes or so will start to leach iron and taste funny. If it's enameled, you're good to go for whatever.

The 8-inch pan is a little small for most jobs, but it's good for a ton of things, especially smaller jobs like bacon or a couple hamburgers or chicken thighs. Try cornbread in it sometime.

Hey, FMB, do a google image search for "cast iron Jedi" and look at the first pic. It made me laugh.

Anyone have a decent recipe for a quick pizza sauce (something you've made and can vouch for)? Or a really good canned version?

I've made this before which is pretty good. It's not the best, but it'll do.

You can always tweak it how you like it. I usually add more garlic, I'm a big garlic fan as you could tell from that steak I made awhile back ago.
