And there you have it.

I don't get it at all.

Why bring him out at all in a game that you had well in hand with other good relievers available when you're almost certainly going to use him tomorrow and he just threw his most pitches ever two days before?

Francona, at least, will be able to get 5 innings from Shaw, Allen, and Miller tomorrow night. I don't know if Chapman is going to be Chapman if he has to go tomorrow night.

Yeah, I can see both sides of the argument, but the Cubs middle relievers seem to have some issues for some reason. I know it's a 7-2 game, but if someone comes in, and coughs up runs, then it's a potentially 7-5 (or in that ball park range) game then Chapman is coming in anyways.

I guess Maddon does not trust his relievers other than Chapman, so the Cubs are probably in big trouble tomorrow.

Of course, when Rizzo busted that 2 run HR, I would have pulled Chapman to save him for tomorrow. If your bullpen can't protect a 7 run lead, then I don't know what to tell you.

What the **** is Maddon doing???

eDave 11-01-2016 09:27 PM

No reason for this.

Edit: OK. He's come to his senses.

ChiTown 11-01-2016 09:28 PM

Hard to believe what I am seeing

He's going to pull Chapman after letting him start the 9th. Someone please help me out with the logic here

Anyong Bluth 11-01-2016 09:29 PM

Guys, Maddon is clearly stretching Chapman out for next season.

Duh.

'Hamas' Jenkins 11-01-2016 09:29 PM

Joe Maddon. Genius.

Chiefspants 11-01-2016 09:29 PM

Maddon is obviously vastly superior to Yost guys.

He only gave Arrieta Meche like pitch counts in 2015 and is pulling his best Terry Collins impression in Game 6 of the WS.

GOAT, clearly.

Anyong Bluth 11-01-2016 09:29 PM

I have no clue, either, btw.

jd1020 11-01-2016 09:30 PM

Thanks for sending him back out for the 9th Maddon Matheny!

ChiTown 11-01-2016 09:31 PM

I am now praying for an epic Tribe comeback in this inning just to shove this stupidity up Maddon's ass.

siberian khatru 11-01-2016 09:31 PM

Maddon needs a CT scan after this game.

I don't mind having a quick leash on pitchers in the playoffs, but continually riding the same guys is a good way to hurt their effectiveness because the batters will usually become more effective at timing them. Sometimes using your middle relievers is a good move just because it keeps the other team from seeing your horses and getting comfortable against them. I think Maddon was misguided here.
