Sometimes using your middle relievers is a good move just because it keeps the other team from seeing your horses and getting comfortable against them. I think Maddon was misguided here.

I agree with all your takes on this, especially the middle relievers. He did use Monty so that kind of took off an inning.

Seems like Strop and Rodon cannot handle the big time pressure situations in the playoffs, especially in high leverage situations. *shrugs*

On the other hand, there's nothing comfortable facing a pitcher who can dish out a 100+ mph fastballs on a consistent basis.

Joe West getting offended by someone questioning his strike zone when knee high fastballs right down the middle have been called balls all night.

Chiefspants 11-01-2016 09:37 PM

Burning Wood too. Maddon putting on a world class clinic.

Coach 11-01-2016 09:38 PM

Joe West can go get ****ed.

Nothing better than a game 7.

Strop and Rodon are adequate. If you need to grab some innings from them and you fear about them in high leverage, you can always use them against the bottom of the order in the middle innings and then use Montgomery later, if need be.

Given that Game 7 is all hands on deck it's almost certainly going to go:

Hendricks, Lester, Lackey, Chapman

with the middle two likely flipped according to matchups.

Not really burning Wood - a 2-pitch out.

Gonna be a fun game 7 tomorrow night

Buck 11-01-2016 09:41 PM

Uh Oh. 3-1 Lead has dried up.

jd1020 11-01-2016 09:42 PM

Game 7, boys!

Bats got hot tonight. Hopefully it continues vs a tired Kluber.

Oh... and go **** yourself, Maddon.

Yeah, ultimately that probably wasn't a huge deal.

...But I would have left in Strop for another batter or two to keep as many fresh arms as possible.

Still had to get him up, get him warm, and put him out there. It's not always the pitches you throw in the game that gets you.

True. There just wasn't much labor involved with his effort tonight.

Regardless, Maddon and his postgame explanation of Champman's usage still left much to be desired. I think he completely overreacted in the 7th inning. We'll see if it bites him in the ass tomorrow.

I think the first team to put runs up on the board wins the game tomorrow night

Nothing better than game 7's. This is possibly the biggest game 7 in the history of baseball with all the storylines to go along with it. One more Cubbies!
