I really like Betemit. He looks solid to me, kinda strange that it took him so long. He was a good prospect in his day. There is no guarantee that Moose is going to be better than Betemit. I don't know why people just assume this. If Moose stays down all year in Omaha and does reasonably well, and Betemit plays the entire year at 3b and has a line of like .310/.385 obp/12 hr....I say consider trading Moose.

No. In that scenario, you trade Betemit. And I'm not knocking him, I just feel that if you have a free agent and a home grown kid that are roughly the same player, then trade the free agent.

Moose would have much higher trade value though I would think, and not rightly so. And there is no guarantee that what minor league success he had would translate to the majors.

The reason you replace Betemit with Moose is power.

Additionally, he's already shown he's a defensive liability.

Mike Jacobs had power, just saying.

I'm with you on that. Would be OK with it being done to start next year, though.

Can't stress enough the last three sentences of your post. The Royals got off to a hot start that raised a lot of expectations, especially among casual fans. Honestly, at this point, I don't care what the record is the rest of the year and would in fact root for it to the worst it possibly can (one more top five-10 pick next year wouldn't be a bad thing, necessarily...). This is what I care about for the rest of this season:

1) Does Billy Butler return to the player he was in the 2009 season(.300/15/90 w/ 45+ 2Bs)?
2) Does Alex Gordon finish with a line around .285/20/80/90/10? That's what he's currently on pace for, and that would be a very valuable line.
3) What does Hosmer do for the rest of the season? .280/25/75?
4) Danny Duffy's rookie year... does he continue the success he flashed in start No. 2?
5) What do Moose/Cain/Monty do when they are called up?
6) Does Joakim Soria bounce back?
7) Do the young bullpen guys (Crow, Collins, Chapman) continue to shine?

And how quickly does Trevor Bauer sign after the Royals draft him? *** I'm hoping on this one. The buzz on Cole seems to be turning back around, could see him going No. 1 to the Pirates, with Rendon (M's), Starling (O's), and Hultzen (D-Backs) coming off the table next. At that spot, Bauer is my dream pick (and has been for a while).

They need to target a college RHP in this draft, IMO, and the idea of Jungmann (Luke Hochevar, part 2) or Sonny Gray (shrimp-tastic, but would work as a future closer) is not real appealing to me. The Royals have scouted Bauer recently, with Dayton Moore taking a personal look, so maybe this isn't as far-fetched as it once seemed (at one point, I was dreaming of Bauer lasting until rnd. 2. Oh well).

Continuing the dream draft... TCU's Matt Purke in round 2 would be an awesome value, as would Jackie Bradley. Jr. (CF, South Carolina).

In this dream draft, they would then pounce on Johnny Eirman in round 3, as other teams are scared away by his contract demands.

Highly doubt eierman lasts to the third.

Yankees pick in the thirties iirc and have indicated he could possibly go there, white sox also have tolled about taking him in the first but are a little concerned about money. rays have tons of early picks and have scouted him HARD

Certainly, there are no guarantees.

Just saying that ideally, you'd like to have power at the corners.

Man.. what a fun ball park this is to watch games in. The K is an awful ballpark. Leads people to believe that crummy average hitters (Butler) are good hiters because they slap the ball to the wall on 25 bounces.

stonedstooge 05-29-2011 02:01 PM

I'd say hold on to Butler until a team needs someone that's in a pennant chase. Don't they let trades happen up to a certain date? Then get a young arm or two for him

Thus why it's a dream.

I know he might not even make it to the Royals pick in the second round. But if I could script the draft a certain way, that's what I'd script.

He also was never regarded as a top 20 prospect, or a top 10 prospect, as Moustakas is. He also wasn't drafted No. 2 overall.

Big difference in pedigree. Jacobs had to sacrifice a lot of contact to generate his power. Moose does not.

Al Bundy 05-29-2011 02:10 PM

Only Belly fatass Butler would get stuck at 2nd base on a ball hit like that.

Sure-Oz 05-29-2011 02:12 PM
