I've had pretty good luck with MEPIS, though you can also try Knoppix.

MEPIS i think required more memory - because Knoppix is running smooth as silk

thanks for the suggestion

my latest problem is when trying to install the NES or SEGA emulators it says SDL 1.2 is not installed when Other programs installed (Xmoto) are ok with it

when i download the SDL RPM it wants to remove xmoto and other programs and i dont want it to.

any other suggestions?

also on one of the emulators when i do Make it give me a wierd code

Code:

gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I.    -O -pipe -Wall  -I/usr/X11R6/include -D__USE_BSD -c emu.c
emu.c: In function ‘loadpal’:
emu.c:893: error: expected ‘)’ before string constant
emu.c:915: error: expected ‘)’ before string constant
emu.c:927: error: expected ‘)’ before string constant
emu.c: In function ‘main’:
emu.c:1605: error: expected ‘)’ before string constant

Couldn't say, I never install more than the Gnome libraries. You might just try reloading KDE.

As for the make errors, take a look at emu.c file, it looks like you have an open paren somewhere that never got closed properly. Start at line 893 and move backwards. You can use Kate or Kedit and setup formatting for C and it will "color code" that stuff for you.

Slackware 11.0 came out a couple days ago!

You've been using Linux long enough, I think it's time to move to a less bloated distro.

Maybe I should try a Slax live CD.

Myth TV?

Not a problem. (http://www.mythtv.org/)

Don't know what your D-Link Media Lounge product is though.

I have been using the D-Link with windows Media Connect but I need something to do the same thing but from linux

here is a discription of windows media connect

Quote:

Windows Media Connect is software that lets you stream digital media files on your computer to digital media receivers (DMRs) that are connected to your home network.

Like many people, you probably have a lot of music, video, and picture files on your computer. There may be times, however, when you want to play those files in another room that does not have a computer. By using Windows Media Connect and a DMR, such as an Xbox 360 or Roku SoundBridge, you can do that.

unlurking 10-03-2006 11:17 PM

Try GeeXboX or Roku. Don't do media streaming, but have head good things about GeeXboX.
