I thought Butler's power would start to develop last year and he regressed. Maybe this year. Sometimes I forgot just how young the guy is.

Power as in HRs regressed a little, but he had 45 doubles. I'll take that any day, but I don't want it at cleanup.

Something kinda fun to do, name the Royals 2014 lineup & starting pitcher.

1B - Hosmer
2B - Colon
SS - Escobar
3B - Moustakas
LF - Myers
CF - Cain
RF - Eibner
C - Perez
DH - Butler
SP - Montgomery

Is that too obvious?

You spelled Hochevar wrong.

:D

I'm dreaming but say for argument's sake that Jeffress is everything & more than we imagined & Collins is everything we expect & Louis Coleman develops into a fantastic setup guy so we'd have Coleman in the 7th, Collins in the 8th & Jeffress as the closer. This frees up Soria who we then trade to the Yankees for Montero/Nunez/?????.

Our lineup would then be:

1. Cain - CF
2. Colon - 2B
3. Myers - LF
4. Moustakas - 3B
5. Hosmer - 1B
6. Montero - C
7. Butler - DH
8. Eibner - RF
9. Escobar - SS<!-- / message -->

I think Seitzer's line-drive approach is the culprit for Butler's stagnant 2010 season.

DeezNutz 01-22-2011 11:19 PM

Butler doesn't have much natural loft in his swing trajectory, so I think Seitzer is a non-factor in this regard.

Butler also has 12 more GDP in 2010 than he did in 2009. Can that all just be bad luck?

With a player who consistently makes solid contact and is unathletic and fat as ****? Yes.

Butler was born to hit a baseball. I don't think Seitzer has had a single influence on his performance, for better or worse. While some great hitters need refinement, like Brett himself, others are pure, like Biiilllllaaayyy.

Edit: Not saying that Billy doesn't take a serious approach to his swing. Just that he's really, really fundamentally sound.

Bob Dutton has just reported via twitter that the Royals did not just agree to a 4-year deal with Butler. They have a club option for a 5th year.

http://twitter.com/Royals_Report/sta...44108534222849

Signing bonus: $2MM
2011: $3MM
2012-2014: $8MM per
2015: club option for $12.5MM, $1MM buyout

FYP

Pretty slick move by DM. Gives Butler some motivation to try and earn a big paycheck.

No doubt, dude. He's a really good hitter now, but he's tantalizingly close to moving into "monster" category, so I'm greedy.

Speaking of Seitzer, it will be interesting to see how Gordon does. He recently admitted somewhere that Seitzer has wanted to make big changes to Gordon's swing for a while but he's been resisting it. This offseason he's apparently working on whatever Seitzer wants him to do.

What a shock.

If all of sudden Gordon "gets it" because he allows himself to be coached, he needs to get the shit beat out of him for wasting so much ****ing time and talent.

If it doesn't click, he just needs to get out of KC and try again somewhere else.
