Just play nice, answer a few questions politely and everyone goes on with their day. You chose agressive actions or attitude, you are going to have a bad day.

I actually had this come up a few months ago. My wife, her brother, and his girlfriend decided to go for a walk around 1am in the small town we lived in at the time.
They were stopped by a police officer for no reason other than it was late. My wife did not have ID on her. She was placed in the back of the cruiser. My brother in law called me, and I flew down there with her ID.
I started running my mouth about why they were stopped in the first place as they were just walking down the road. The cop told me I didn't need to have attitude about it. I told him my attitude wasn't relevant to the situation, and I had just asked a question.
He puffed his chest out. I knew immediately I could go one of two ways with this. Even though it's HIS job to deescalate situations, and treat law abiding citizens with respect, I knew I better take the lead here.
We all left within 2 minutes after I shook his hand and thanked him for his time. Regardless of anything, someone, sometime has to choose to be the adult. If a guy has a gun, tazer, nightstick, pepper spray, radio, and a badge, you better choose wisely.
I never filed a report against the guy, or anything. 4 hours of possible sensitivity training wasn't worth me being harassed by every cop in town. That was my first run in with a law enforcement officer in probably 10 years. Boy, they sure have changed...
