Compared to Tharpe?? Hes way better. You must not watch many other teams play if you think his defense is the worst in the country. Im not saying hes this amazing defender necessarily but I expected him to be way behind the curve on that. Hes been better than expected there, I think anyone would agree with that. As far as ballhandling he doesnt make mistakes, which isnt necessary a good thing because he sure doesnt look like a good distributor either.

I like how every NCAA loss you blame on the team not trying hard enough, its pretty funny. Effort matters, just not to the degree you, fans, and the media portray it to be. Almost every player at this level is playing with a high level of intensity. Just because they arent flopping around and animated like Marcus Smart doesnt mean they dont have the will to win

Well, right now he looks like a guy who doesn't have a strength. Looks like a common scrub out there. But that's no reason to write him off in the future or anything, he'll have all summer to improve.

It does, because it's not just about physicality.

Effort portrays more that that. Mental, physical, etc. KU doesn't mentally lock in on defense at times, lacking focus, which leads to shitty effort.

Except that isn't close to true. There are plenty of games this team has lost where they've given a good effort. The KSU one in overtime for example or the San Diego game at home. They tried hard and just got beat in those games.

But there are also games like today where the team didn't try at all for 30 minutes defensively. They turned up the effort level in the last 10 primarily due to Wiggins, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early laziness.

It matters a ton. WVU was focused and wanted this game in a way that KU just didn't. They showed it on the court. That ultimately proved to be the biggest difference today.

I want to have kids just so I can tell them if they try really hard, theyll be an astronaut or POTUS, but if they dont, theyll lose to Northern Iowa or WVU
