I guess I don't get the big concern with cap space. It's not like this team needs to spend a bunch of money on other teams' free agents to fill holes. What positions currently need a huge upgrade? I feel like most the pieces are in place, it's just a matter of keeping them here and getting the most out of them.

So what are they saving cap space for again?

The Chiefs could use another corner (two if Smith leaves), an interior pass rusher or two, an outside pass rusher or two, a RT, a WR or two, an ILB, and a guard.

Resign our interior D linemen and Smith and the CB and and Dline is set. If Hali stays, they can probably afford to give Ford another year to earn a starting role. They drafted two ILBs last year.

I"ll give you they need another WR, and more help on the Oline. But a #2 WR and a couple fatties aren't likely to break the bank. I'm not saying the Chiefs are set at every position, but I don't feel like they have many positions that are so critically bad that they need to go tear up the FA market. They may be deep at the safety position, but they aren't so cap strapped that they need to let an all pro walk to save some money.

Berry is a truly special player bc there isn't another safety like him. Guys like TJ Ward and Kam Chancellor are the big hitters who have average speed that can't get to the outside quick enough, but fortunately they had very fast LB's to cover that deficiency.

On the other end you have elite speed safeties like Earl Thomas and Ron Parker who can easily ball hawk and chase guys down but can't be a force in the box against the run.

That's why Berry is so good. He's the best all around safety in the NFL. He is talented at everything.
Why do you think Mauga only played 40% of the snaps? Bc Berry was basically the LB on most of those third downs bc he can stuff the run and cover the pass.

Yeah he gets beat by elite TE's like Gronk and Gates, but come the **** on. As I said before, every safety struggles against those guys. Watch the SB where Gronk was making Thomas and Chancellor his bitches all night.

I have it on high authority that Eric Weddle can not replace Halle Berry.

Just no way!

Gronk is the only TE I can really recall this season who got the best of Berry all game.

And when he's healthy, I have yet to really see a safety or cornerback who can stop him.

How much of Gronk getting the best of Berry was because of those stupid zone defenses Sutton was calling?? If Berry would've been in more press coverage, he would've had a better chance at slowing Gronk coming off the line/out of breaks/etc. As it were, Gronk and Edelman were allowed free release off the line and ran right to the open holes in the zones. There wasn't much Berry could do about that other than secure the tackle...

Much different play calling than the 2014 MNF Game. Sutton acted like Dee Ford and Frank Zombo hadn't been playing the same blitz/man-press stuff the previous 3 weeks. "Let's go zone this week". :banghead:

He ran press in the first 2 drives and Brady ate us alive bc there was no pressure.

Greg Cosell and Alex Smith give an overview of the free agent safety class.

Haters keep hating...

https://www.profootballfocus.com/pro...-all-pro-team/

Safety: Eric Weddle, Baltimore Ravens, 92.4

A new defense has done little to dampen the impact of Eric Weddle, who has been one of the best safeties in the game for pretty much his entire career. He once again leads PFF’s safety rankings this season, and has been an impact player against both the run and pass for the Ravens.

Dude, I only come here and post occasionally, so I don't know your history, but it sure seems like you have a penchant for pissing people off, why on earth would you be gloating about Weddle doing well?

I just don't get what you're trying to achieve here...

Just trying to give yourself credi?

I mean, I'm at a loss

Fair enough response I guess, but I've never really understood that standard.

I like to hear everyone's opinions regarding the chiefs, whether they align with mine or not...

I have no qualms with you, just curious as to why you bumped this thread I guess.

Just roll thru all the pages of comments and you'll understand. It's just interesting to see all the hate one can attract because it's the easy thing to do even tho there is clear, objective information to support a different stance.

If anything, a reminder that alternative views should be considered and discussed rather than incessantly criticized on CP.

I have really enjoyed having Berry on this team but if you've noticed over the last 2 months, people are starting to realize he doesn't have it in him like he once did. His agent was out of his mind demanding big money like that after a contract year that was clearly below his standards. Dorsey did the right thing.

On this we agree. Dorsey offered to make him the highest paid safety in the game, and Berry turned down the offer. I'm absolutely in Dorsey's corner.

If Berry tries to go for that money again, we ain't gonna tag him a second time. He walks at that point. And that has to be the correct move.
