This move was about the Spanos racking in PSL+suite money.
The Rams are going to suck for awhile, so the Chargers have an opportunity to generate enough interest to sell contracts to people if they can shit out a playoff berth between now and 2019.
Not impossible if they can find a S&C coach worth a ****, and a much better Offensive Line.
Once the suite contracts and PSL agreements are in place, they could give a **** less if people go to the games or not. They're legally bound to pay for the shit and they just made a bunch of free ****ing money.
The Chargers brand will quickly become a high end value and they will eventually sell it off for insane profit.
That's why you force an entire city into a situation they can't remedy, ignore a bunch of influential owners that say don't do it and piss off a city. **** you, about to get paid.
