be surprised if somebody hasn't mentioned this one in here...but justin case (he owes me money!)
I am a fan of cherry brewed beers....I admit it! I won't apologize! Three Philosophers drew me to it for the cherries...a quadruple blended with kriek. http://www.ommegang.com/#!beer_three big fan of Ommegangs Hennepin too! http://www.ommegang.com/#!beer_hennepin http://jax-cdn.com/sites/default/fil.../740447855.jpg |

I have not tried the Russian River. |
and a week ago, my buddy had been aging Dogfish Head 120 IPA. I think it was the 2009 or 2010 vintage.
OMFG. If you ever get a chance to try that beer, DO IT! Best beer I've ever had, maybe. |
Im kinda over the trying new beers kick. I've tried too many to count, and there is only a very small handful that are even memorable.
Rogue's Hazlenut Brown Nectar is still my favorite. Sam Adam's Griffin's Bow was memorable for me. Had a few Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA's this weekend, which tasted like a rich man's Lagunitas Li'l Sumpin'. Everything i've had thus far just tastes like a very SLIGHTLY different version of the same beers. Still waiting for that one beer that makes me go, "WHOA" |

My Go To's: Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ithica Cascazilla Red Allagash White and Black Harpoon UFO Pumpkin right now, best pumpkin beer for the price when I want to go cheap I guess I don't have that many go to's, lol |

http://denver.metromix.com/content_i...264765/518/370 anybody get this but me? (prolly not....) I frequent the saucer (my plate is on the wall...yeah I know....big deal) and I've tried hundreds of beers. if there is one beer in heaven....it will be BLVD BBQ. this was the ultimate "WHOA" beer for me! hands down my favorite beer on the planet. it is seasonal and it can sometimes be a bitch to find because it sells so quickly. I have a few hoarded at home still from last season. I wish this was something I could get my hands on all the time. http://www.boulevard.com/wp-content/...urbon_Quad.jpg http://www.boulevard.com/BoulevardBe...on-barrel-quad |
Try Rye on Rye too. Whoa. Tasty.
|
Reaper, the Saucer has Cantillon Lou Pepe Geuze. I've never had it. Do I need to try it? I've had their Kriek and Iris and loved both.

Looks like Friday will be my 3rd trip for Sour Week!
|
hey...I just picked up a bottle of BLVD Stingo.
the guy told me it was limited and they originally would only allow a few bottles per customer, but now that the initial excitement has died down he'll sell a bruvva whatever. so...if you care...I know where you can get a case or more of this in the KC area. hell as hard as it is to get BBQ's I hope I like this one a lot! anybody tried this? http://www.boston.com/partners/gread...o--371x247.jpg |
The Stingo is pretty good. But nowhere near the level of BBQ. I just opened a 2010 BBQ the other night, whoa. Soooooooo boozy. Love it.
|
Stingo is incredible, for an English Strong Ale. That small undercurrent of tartness plays so well with the coffee-forward deep malty flavors. That style doesn't quite have the ceiling of a barrel-aged, tart-cherry-added, Belgian Quadrupel. Stingo is a great Right Guard, while BBQ is a great Middle Linebacker.

me likey cherries! I brew a batch once every several years. my last one I made a wheat and poured a gallon of pure cherry juice into it. it was pretty dang good. |
Spent the last four days in San Diego on a beer tourism trip. Phenomenal. I love everything about SD. Had some truly amazing beers - here's the full list (spoilered for scrolling)...
Spoiler!
|
damn you had a lot of beer
|
That list needs more Russian River.

Supplication...now you're talking.

All right, I'm headed to this tomorrow and figured this is as good a place as any to help whittle down the list.
Any "must tries" you'd recommend, let me know por favor. List in spoiler below. I'll probably be avoiding: 1) Pumpkin beers (there are a few I've had that are decent, but honestly, I'm over them) 2) Widely available nationally stuff 3) East Coast stuff (because most of it is as easy for me to get as stuff from #2). so i had a boulevard tank 7 on draft....it was great
|
That's a big list. Here's what stood out for me:
Matilda - Goose Island Tank 7 - Boulevard Any of the Lips of Faith from New Belgium Anything from Avery Looks like a couple of good Dunkels on the list too. Tank 7 isn't going to blow your mind but it's a very drinkable beer. I'm very fortunate to have that on tap at virtually everywhere I go so I underappreciate it. |
Even if you don't like pumpkin beers, do yourself a favor and try La Parcela from Jolly Pumpkin. It's a pumpkin beer, but it's a delicious sour pumpkin beer. Those guys make a wild ale like noone else in the states (except Russian River, Lost Abbey, The Bruery or maybe Cigar City).
Phil's list is pretty good too; I particularly enjoy Matilda. The Peach Porch Lounger is also pretty tasty by Lips of Faith/New Belgium. |

Thanks guys, this is exactly why I asked. Rep coming everybody's way.
I'll probably not do the Goose Island and Allegash...I tend to like both those breweries, but I can get the stuff they're offering elsewhere here. Was definitely going to try the Tank 7 an Lips of Faith (pretty much the only New Belgium I can't get here). I may give the La Parcela a shot, glad you mentioned it even though I said I'm over pumpkins (Brooklyn's Post Road is about the only one I'll still drink now and then). I'm big on sours and lambics so I was going to give the Timmermans Pumpkin Lambicus a go anyway. |

Iowa still carries their stuff pretty regularly though. |

I highly recommend their sour stout, Madrugada Obscura. |

If not, at least I've tried it and can keep an eye out when I travel. And drinks/food are an area where I actually agree with the "better to have loved and lost..." adage. |

S/N has a Kolsch? I. must. try. this. Just to see their take on it.

21A's Bitter American is pretty good.
|
Just ran across a 4 pack of 2009 Bourbon County Brand Stout. SCORE.

I got this from a friend that didn't know what he had. Gave him a bunch of solid, but easier to find, stouts in return.
I haven't seen any of the current year's in KC this year or the last few years either. Shoot, I have friends from Chicago that have been asking if it's down here yet because they couldn't find it there. It's a bit puzzling to see the scarceness, considering they're supposed to be producing 5x the amount that they've been brewing yearly. |

I just had 2008 BCBS out of a growler last weekend - amazing. BCBS is one of my all-time faves... |
I'm not eve a stout drinker but the Oak Aged Imperial Stout Yeti from Great Divide I had last night was silly.
I'm generally a fan of everything from Avery but had their Witbier and their Brown Ale last night. Neither was horrible and both were drinkable but neither made me want another. Pretty disappointing overall. Wish I had started with the Yeti. |

The Chocolate and Espresso Yetis are delicious. Soooo good.
I'm excited to see if the BCS Cherry and BCS Coffee varieties turn up around here. |
I got to have some Bell's Black Note Stout tonight at Martin City Brewing Company. Whoa, just delicious.
Also had a Meddler by Odell, very tasty sour. |
You been in Waldo Pizza LS lately? They have a very tasty lineup now.
|
Waldo Pizza is very nice. Lots of choices out here with Next Door Pizza too. Can't complain about the beer selections out this way much.
|
No, we have it very good. It's even better when you're drinking on the house writing Chiefs songs.
|
Bison Belgian Ale was the best back when i drank. Hi%
|
I really miss Pliny the Elder since moving from Denver to Dallas.
|
In Brussels Belgium they brew lambic beer. Can only be found in Brussels from my knowledge. It's unbelievably good. That's a must have before you die, not some ale u can buy in 50 states.
|
You can buy most of those lambics here, but the best ones are very difficult to find. Got any Cantillon?
|
Anyone going to the Strong Ale Fest in Wetport today?
|
Quote:
|
Cantillon is VERY tough to find in the states. Drie Fonteinen is another good lambic that can be found here if you look hard enough. Both are pretty pricey here compared to what they cost in Belgium/Europe.

I'm enjoying a delicious Odell DeConstruction right now. Golden Ale aged in wine barrels. It's good. Real good. |

hoping to try this in a few days, a chocolate-peanut butter porter http://terrapinbeer.com/wp/wp-conten...-Bliss_web.jpg |
mmmm.......Oatmeal Stout
|
I'm quickly falling in love with the beers from Lagunitas.
Maximus, Lil Sumpin', and Hop Stoopid are great I tried another one of theirs last Friday....can't remember. Wasn't nearly as hoppy. I think it was a pilsner? Maximus is full of hop flavor. Very nice. |
I'm having the Yeti Expresso now, CP does not disappoint.
|
Best IPA on east coast, heady topper in VT, stuff is liquid gold
|
Anyone tried Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter yet?
None here in Topeka so far. But I will be in Wichita over the weekend and Tom's has a case with my name on it. |

Hopefully Old Chicago is bringing back their Diamond Porter this year... |

I'll have to put that on my grocery list for tomorrow. |
The wife got the IPA from KBC (Kennebunkport Brewing) at Trader Joe's. It's as bad of an IPA as I've ever had. Gross.

The description of SVP sort of intrigued me. I'm not a coffee drinker although I love things that taste like coffee. Bearcat mentioned mocha and that sealed the deal for me. Can't wait to pick this up tomorrow. |
If you are a staunch Blvd Wheat drinker you'll love the 80-Acre.
