I could cherry pick stats for every single player and position on the team and make them look bad. If you can't admit that things have changed since your original post, then you're just being obstinate.

They haven't changed much at all - our RF is still a place where we don't generate any XBH and haven't since DM took over. It's not a big deal or something worth arguing over, just an observation. Life is good for Royals fans now and has been phenomenal for years. We good? (Fist bumps)

Finnegan doesn't even show up in the AL slugging% list so he must be pretty bad.

I finally got around to listening to a podcast the KC Baseball Prospectus guys did last week with Jonah Keri. My, what a week changes.

Keri's main points were about luck, and how Royals guys didn't have any projection left, and how 2B was still a black hole.

We will see how long Cain stays hot... But he just had the second best month by OPS and most homer-happy month of his career.

And Hosmer, if he does this for a full year, has projection left.

Merrifield also has drastically changed the landscape at 2B. I don't expect him to hit .350 all year, but I wouldn't be shocked if he puts up that type of OPS. I hate to agree with the Beaver, but his comparison last night of Merrifield to former Texas Ranger Michael Young is one that I have also been thinking about.

Also don't think the rotation will be THIS rough the rest of the season... They have enough bodies to cycle through, and if they still in contention and need to, there's always the trade market.

Most amusing part was how surprised Keri acted about Ian Kennedy. It's amazing that these guys continue to be surprised when a guy comes to KC and outperforms their expectations.

The rotation isn't THAT bad, but when you lead or 2nd in the AL in walks, that is not a good sign to a degree. It's the little things I'm nitpicking, yes, but it's still a concern that needs to be addressed.

Fortunately *knocking on wood* those walks haven't come back and bite the Royals in the ass yet, but they need to address it one way or another, because we know the offense won't be churning out 6-7 runs every game.

The models have been good/accurate for a lot of teams and over time.

They just struggle to account for:
Great bullpens
Great defenses (especially if paired with a park that suppresses HR)

The Royals break a lot of those models, because those don't regress to expected means.

We are +3 wins vs expected, going by both PtThag and BaseRuns. 2 weeks ago when I last checked we were flat. I'd guesstimate we picked up 2-3 wins in the four rallies Friday-Monday. All which were expected losses (all 3 vs Sux) or tossup (vs Rays)

Keri is not a Royals believer much like Rob Neyer isn't either. Their numbers can't figure out the Royals.

Nothing to do with the achillies. He has a sprained ankle and nothing more. Won't be out for a long duration of time.

Not a "high" ankle sprain --- just a run of the mill ankle sprain from everything I've read and heard. Very surprised given the way it looked at the time.

Probably 2-4 weeks tops IMO based on the multitude of ankle sprains I've had in my life.

Is Brian Bannister or Gil Meche available?

Meche would play for free --- perhaps even pay the Royals to play.

He's lying . He popped his achilles. Don't understand why he can't just admit it.

I assumed high due the mechanism of injury. I'm not an orthopedist, but my understanding is the typical ankle sprain is usually due to rolling the joint, damaging the talofibular ligament.

It looked to me like he was putting high impact rotational pressure, which tends to lead one to believe the superior ligaments in the joint were stretched.

Again, not an expert, but it looked like a textbook high ankle.

I don't like this. Young is perfect as a long reliever/spot starter. His strength is in the 2-4 inning range. I hate seeing a guy with two pitches as an every day starter, even if he is technically the #5.

They are good? Compared to what? Last year's predictions were so bad they were almost in inverse order. You could literally draw names out of a hat and you would have predicted the AL finish better than fangraphs.

Maybe Eibner has a ridiculously low pain threshold? I have sprained my ankle so many times that the ligaments are all loosey-goosey to this day, but I've never rolled around in pain like he did.

Oh well - good news it's not serious.

Low ankle sprain only? Wow, wouldn't think he would go to the DL for that. He's had a weird injury ridden milb career. Remember that one season he missed half a year when he tripped in the rain outside his apartment.

I bet him and Zimmer hang out and talk about their feelings.

Oh, I keed I keed. I'm sure it was more painful than we know, and a good reason he had to go to the DL.

I have. Rolled and sprained my ankle so bad that I was in a soft cast and on crutches for a week. Holy crap that hurt.

Not sure if it is his first, but the first sprain is always the most painful.
