They told the Sox they would absolutely need one of Rafael Devers, Andrew Benitendi, or Yoan Moncada as part of the package for him.

Unless Beane's asking price comes way down, it ain't happening.

Also, if the Royals had just taken Gray instead of Starling in the first place...

It doesn't surprise me that Beane would go for a good ol' style fleecing, especially with the professional shade he threw at Moore in the offseason. It seems the wild card game broke his ability to fleece for a good year.

Who wants sonny gray? His slider and curveball have gone from valuable pitches to below league avg. meh

You'd be looking for the same type of return the Astros gave up for Ken Giles, which was significant. You wouldn't get an established starter, but you'd get some good young players.

Herrera has less control but is more established than Giles. You probably don't get Eickhoff AND Velasquez, but chances are good to get at least one.

That said, I wouldn't trade him. He's still young, cheap and dynamic.

Was thinking yesterday that if KC does fall out of it, the Royals would be positioned well to send SP, RP help, and a bat to the same team in a package deal. Hochevar + Morales + Volquez could plug critical holes for a lot of contenders (Texas, for example, or now the Mets). I'd think an "all in one" trade like that would command a pretty nice return - similar to what you'd get for one premium piece.

But I don't think they will end up selling. I think they stay in the playoff hunt and end up buying.
