Exactly.

A two year extension and a raise two years after you just signed a seven year extension, when during that two year period, not only has the team regressed, but recruiting has failed and the team showed a severe lack of desire and preparation down the stretch.

This would be like the Cards giving Pujols his extension, and then after he has two successive decline years giving him another extension.

I'm okay with this deal only if it contains a prohibitive buyout provision.

Alden didn't have a ton of leverage w/ the last deal so the buyout is only $550K. With this deal, Anderson doesn't have the leverage to be setting terms, IMO. If MU is giving the man a 5 year deal, they better have assurances that he's here for the long haul. The only way to do that is to have a poison pill in it that would make buying him out of the deal cost prohibitive.

If Alden doesn't insist on the inclusion of a stout buyout in this deal, that's a huge failure on his part and will all but ensure we go through this shit every season.

As for the prospect of keeping Anderson - eh, we could've done worse. And it's possible we could've done better. All things considered, I think the odds favored a downgrade from Anderson so ultimately I'm okay with keeping him around.

Haha, no way does Anderson deserve top 10 money....gotta win a conference title first...and being in the same conference as TX and KU....that probably won't happen anytime soon.

Give MA some credit....there's not really anything MU can do unless they wanna keep him. MA and his system have it's flaws...but he's put that program in better shape since Quin's era. Luckly for Anderson, there aren't too many options that seem better for MU at the moment if they wanna stay competitive in the Big12. I don't think bringing in some small conference up and coming coach will do much good. MA's got the program by the balls right now. Gotta give him credit...most people in their job would love to be in this position.

Anderson just keeps getting richer and richer, his agent must be a badass.

Seriously he needs to do better recruiting and geting this team ready

This year was a big step back, horrid basketball

the Talking Can 03-21-2011 06:02 PM

after that season of fail, Anderson threatens to leave again...and gets another raise and 2 more years...

ROFL

that guy is a damn genius....$2 mill is just ****ing absurd

KCinNY 03-21-2011 06:07 PM

If Anderson keeps up with his steady regression, I suspect he'll make the NIT next year and work Alden over for another raise/extension.

It is nothing short of an enormous failing on Alden's part. His line should have been this:

Mike, we'd like to keep you, but you haven't earned a raise or extension. From our perspective, you're operating under a fair deal, and we'd like to see you continue to do so.

If Anderson balks, he walks. Simple as that.

My stance would have been to Anderson "You talk to Arkansas you don't have a job here, your contract is more than fair here."

yeah

look, i get MU wanting to keep him...but you can't let him pull the same stunt 2 years running....

for 2 mill you better be winning your conference and bringing in big time recruits every year....

The thing is, Anderson could have easily walked and immediately gotten hired at Ark. MU wasn't really in a position to play hardball.

Just be happy the Pressey's are staying.

Eh. We're in the position to hope to be the fourth best team in the conference. Stress: hope.

This assumes that someone defines the word "rebound" to Anderson sometime in the near future.

This year's team was one of the least intelligent and most gutless I can remember in some time.

Yeah...no heart the last several weeks, standing around etc...

I like MA, but he needs to re-evaluate his team and his coaching

Yeah 4th place in conference probably isn't worth 2 million, but like I said earlier, combined with the program being squeaky clean, Alden must be thinking it's worth it.
