But if we trade for Alex Smith and don't draft a top QB from this class to develop, I'm not supporting this regime this year.

That would be the breaking point for me.

Same here.

I honestly am past the whole Alex Smith thing. I don't care what they do or don't do on that front.

It's all about 1.1 for me.

QB? I'm on board.

Anything else? I'm out.

yawn yawn yawn

what does that even mean? Deep draft? I hear that shit all of the time.

But fine.

Even then.

for a 3rd round pick to be a pro bowler, call heads or tails 3 times and nail it 3 times in a row.

for a 3rd round pick to be a solid player...better call it right 3 times out of 4.

for a 3rd round pick to be an average/roster worthy player better call it 2 times out of 3.

someday the board will understand the crapshoot of the draft

the draft's BEST VALUE for 3rd-7th round picks is the fact you can fill roster spots 28-53 for CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP so you can save your cap money for the 10-15 guys on the team that deserve to be paid and paid well

I won't be out no matter what. I'm not a fairweather fan no matter how many dark years there are.

If they can trade down and land a haul and still take a QB within the 1st 34 picks I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Won't be thrilled, but will stay open-minded.

If they trade for Smith and draft Joeckel at #1 I'm going to be ****ing pissed at this team and watch angrily all year and be as condescending as possible towards the regime any time we look like shit on Sunday.

Hootie 02-27-2013 10:26 AM

but if we go 2-14 again I'll make sure to bandwagon on some team that makes me happy as well...

probably the Seahawks...Chiefs always play at noon, Seahawks generally play at 3:15...perfect team to bandwagon on if the Chiefs suck again

You say he did not make "one play" yet he threw two TD's against Eli & that NYG Defense. He beat Drew Brees the week before, he can win big games against good QB's. He's no Peyton Manning, but then, I never overstated it like that.

Alex Smith is a lot better than Matty Cackle. Your sister is too.

Good lord, can you not ****ing read?

I said that Smith CAN NOT MAKE PLAYS AGAINST A GOOD DEFENSE.

Let me repeat that.

Alex Smith CAN NOT MAKE PLAYS AGAINST A GOOD DEFENSE.

He made some plays against Drew Breese because the saints defense couldn't stop your sister.

Speaking of sisters, since I don't have one, you must be talking about my gay brother.

I'm not a fairweather fan. **** you!

I've suffered through 30 years with this ****ing team. I don't go away when they're bad and come back when they're good - well, they haven't been "good" in 15 years or so...

I've ALWAYS stuck with them, through thick AND thin.

Anyway, this isn't about them being good or bad, this is about them NOT EVEN TRYING to do it the way it has been PROVEN to WORK.

If they don't draft a QB at 1.1, I'm done. I'm not even really ok with a trade down.

I'm tired of watching this franchise do it one way while the rest of the goddamn NFL does it another.

Wouldn't it be nice to say this to Dorsey/Reid/Clarks face?
I'd really want to hear their Rebuttal.

I've felt this way many, many times through the years.

As you well know, this franchise has made numerous decisions through the years that have pissed me off.

I've resigned myself to the fact that root for a loser franchise, and just ca't change, no matter how they **** up.

I imagine it's a lot like being in love with a crack ho.

Whatever. I'm not going to get into a multi-page Hootie argument.

It just looks like there could be some quality CB, WR or ILB that will fall to the 4th. Also, being within spitting distance of the 3rd makes it easier to trade back up if a good player is available there.

The point of my post wasn't to champion Cassel; just how little I want to trade for Alex Smith. I don't think he will be content being brought in as a backup again and it could cause problems. There are some veteran QB's out there, like Jason Campbell that can be brought in as a mentor without costing draft picks.

didn't mean to call you one I just see a whole lot of "I quit's" if the Chiefs don't draft Geno Smith.

and I agree, it literally makes no sense, in this draft especially, for the Chiefs to take anyone that isn't a QB at #1.

there is no Calvin Johnson this year.

So to me it is Geno or trade down for a Rams like haul (which I don't think will be available) or bust.

And I strongly prefer Geno.

I view it a lot more like being in love with the crack itself.

Being a Chiefs fan is like being addicted to something.

It's cool man. It's clear from the conversation going on in the other thread that we understand each other. ;)

My only point is...

the Falcons gave us a 2nd round pick for Tony Gonzalez.

Name any 2nd round pick in the NFL (not named Colin Kaepernick) off the top of your head that has had more value than Tony Gonzalez?

we as Chiefs fans, for the majority, LIKED this trade, too.

In short, this board overvalues (and dramatically) later round picks. They are, like I said previously, MOSTLY good for the fact they give us 4 years of player control for players that cost NOTHING against the cap. Which is why a guy like Samie Parker will play for us for four years and then have no offers once his contract expires. They have value until their rookie contracts expire because they fill roster spots 30-52 which need to account for less than 15% of the total cap.

The value of those picks aren't the 1%'s like Jared Allen...

Keith Britton‏@KeithBritton86

Contrary to other reports, source tells me #Browns are not in on Alex Smith talks. Given @JasonLaCanfora report of no to AZ, KC may be alone

We are the only dumb franchise that would actually give up a draft pick and 8 million for a mediocre, underachieving, piece of shit and then pick an OT at #1 in the draft.
