There were two simple, common sense decisions that Matheny ****ed up in that game:

#1) Use your eighth inning guy in the eighth, especially when your seventh inning guy is the best reliever on the team right now.

#2) Never, ever let a pitcher hit late in a close game with multiple RISP and two outs.

I'll say it again: Matheny may be a great guy in the clubhouse, but he's a terrible ****ing manager.

Here's the deal, Marcellus: a team like the Cardinals have manages itself. Matheny just needs to not **** it up, and he can't even do that. From a strategic and character perspective he's got the '85 Bears D with Adrian Peterson, the Chiefs 2003 line and he's the QB with the previous generation's rules. Just hand the ****ing ball off.
