Really don't need to clean the extractor unless you have a ton of carbon buildup on the bolt that you can't simply scrape of with the pin or a fingernail.

Any preferences?...or does it matter for the lower. I'll take my time in figuring out all the guys of it / barrel etc.

My opinion of importance:

1. (Tie) Trigger/Barrel

2. Scope/Sights

3. Buttstock
4. Handgrip

5. Everything else

If you have basic tools, build the lower from scratch. You will learn a lot, and it isn't very hard.

I was thinking more about the inside of the bolt and carrier.

If it isn't sliding smoothly, feeding problems can occur, and they are frustrating as hell.

cool; sounds like my order of importance is about on par with what you have listed.
also, I shoot left handed (left hand on the grip); would I need to put in a left handed upper; or could I just shoot in the regular config? Wasn't sure if I would be getting blassted in the face (NTTAWWT) with expended rounds in the regular config lol

Stag makes left handed rifles, but I have no experience shooting a normal rifle with my left hand so I couldn't tell you the negatives.

The last good deal I found was on PMC Bronze from Cabelas. 300 rounds with a dry box for $99. I combined that with a $20 email coupon and picked it up in the KCK store. I ended up paying just over $0.32/round for 600 rounds and two dry boxes. I don't know if its still available, but I found it here: http://www.slickguns.com/

I pulled the trigger on that brand at Cabelas for 600 rounds, but my deal wasn't as sweet as yours. I think 600 rounds were $219 with free shipping, but it's on back order. I may keep looking for more deals and try to pick up another 600 rounds of something.

Mostly damaging the barrel and degrading accuracy, there's quite a few theories out there from reputable sources. Messing up the crown is possible which will affect accuracy. Now with a chrome line barrel this is somewhat mitigated, but each pull of a brush through there is the equivalent of a bunch of rounds.

Also to anyone concerned with first shot accuracy, make sure after cleaning you fire off a round, the first round fired with a clean barrel will have a slightly different POI than the rest.

Thanks for the reply.

The only thing I worry about is the rod making contact with the barrel. The brush is softer, so it's impossible for it to damage the barrel.

When I get to rounds 3000-5000 on my .308's we will have a good reference. One barrel is chrome lined and the other is Stainless National Match. ;)

They're on backorder, but it still seems like a good price.

This seems like a decent deal. Not great, but better than anything else I've seen recently.

Yeah I have 600 on back order and have picked up another 400 at local sporting goods stores. 1000 rounds should be enough to raise a little hell with, at least with this gun. I have a lot of other ammo for my other guns as well, likely enough to start a donnybrook with a small country. :)

I found some Magazines last night at Impact Guns. A little pricey, but oh well.

ordered two of the Arsenal AK47 Magazine 7.62x39 30 Rd Bulgarian Mfg

Last night their website said they still had them in stock when I placed the order.... today EVERY big AK Magazine is clearly marked OUT OF STOCK.

keeping my fingers crossed that I got my order in before they sold out.

Munson 12-19-2012 04:44 PM

Just went to my favorite local gun store. Their "assault weapon" section was damn near cleaned out. All the AKs were gone, and only 2 or 3 AR-15s. They usually have about 20 or 30 combined AKs and ARs in stock. They still had plenty of shotguns and semi-auto pistols for the time being.

So I don't own a handgun yet, but I'm seriously considering buying a stock of high capacity magazines to have for when I get one. Does anyone have suggestions on this? I was thinking of getting some Glock 17 round mags because, from what I've read, they will work in numerous Glock models. Thoughts?

Too bad you didn't post this a couple of months ago - I had two Glock 9mm mags that worked with the 26 I got rid of, but I gave them to one of my friends.
