If CP didn't TRY to trade down 6-8 spots to add a second round pick....he would have not been doing his job.

I'm glad we got Johnson, but if I we'd have had a shot at at Burnett AND Miller or Browner....I'd have had to think about it, for a bit.

I'd still have stayed at 15 though, more than likely.

Wasn't it only 3 years ago that Pittsburgh was the only team in the league running a 3-4?

That's what happens when a team is successfull doing something. Other teams hustle to copy it...

Frankly, I think it was only as effective as it was because people weren't used to it. It's hard for offensive linemen to figure out who to block, since they need to "declare" a fourth rusher. O-lines are catching up quite quickly though. People will start to switch back when running games take over again.

Well I'd like to think that every GM is using that 15 minutes to entertain offers and possibly trade out. If we'd traded down for a knockout deal I wouldn't have been upset. You never know when somebody is going to let you rob them blind, might as well leave yourself open to the possibility. Nobody really wowed us with an offer, we took the best player on the board. That's how we should be doing it.

Sometimes you win in spite of yourself.

As it stands I think the Chiefs defense will be much better. Hopefully it won't take long for them to start making a difference.

I think there's a huge difference in trying to trade down, and seeing what kind of response you get from all the other teams. If there's a great value with trading down you do it. There weren'yt a lot of trades in the first round with so many players being nearly equal. I love DJ's upside and he'll be a recognizable player for KC for years

No matter what convoluted logic or insane chain of events led up to it, in the end the Chiefs front office did the right thing today.

Best. Offseason. Ever. Any good moves that come out of tomorrow will be gravy. We've added three pro-bowl starters to our defense through free agency, and now we've added a fallen "top-five caliber" rookie linebacker to the mix. Now all they have to do is get it done.

The impression I got from listening to them is that one reason they were so high on Davis for 15 is because they were convinced that there was no way Johnson would still be on the board. I know they made some convoluded comments about what they'd do if they were both on the board but I really didn't take anything from it.

I don't know if anybody caught it or not, but being OCD as I am, I had the draft playing on TV, 810 playing on my second stereo and 610 playing on my walkman, and about the time that Carolina went on the clock, Soren Petro said that he saw a couple of chiefs coaches make a comment along the vein of "wow, maybe johnson really will fall to us".

I really think we got someone we coveted, and if we were trying to trade down, it's because we're obsessed with pick quantity over pick quality, and we were looking for some kind of blockbuster trade. Which wasn't likely to happen...
