I dunno. He convinced Peterson to bring in old donkey rejects as free agents. Granted, they were cheap, but....

I still say the major reason Robinson failed here was Vermeil. I mean Vermeil gave him complete control of the defense. At least in Denver, Shanarat somewhat kept Robinson in line.

IF Mitchell's starting MLB stint hinged on giving a good speech, will the next addition to our defense be picked because he goes sleeveless in the wint... :)

DB: I was really disappointed when I read in the offseason that Kawika Mitchell didn't have the attitude to be physical. From what I was picking up, he didn't have the attitude of physicality, to dare you to even step on the field. Now how can that be when he's playing middle linebacker, the most physical position on the field.

GUN: "Well, we took six months and mentally beat him and he responded...The other night I tested him. I called him out in a meeting, told him to get out in front and talk. I sat down...And he said all the right things about how to play this game, the attitude you gotta bring to the table on every snap....I went out in the hall, called him over and I said, do you understand why I did that? He said, 'you wanted the guys to know that I'm the MLB.' I said no! I said it was just important to one guy and that was me. I wanted to believe you when you talked and I believe you....

DB: Ryan Sims looks different, he looks better.

GUN: Yeah, but he's got a long ways to go before he satisfies me...

Formerdb did an outstanding job. He asked a lot of questions we all want asked and answered. He should have some more stuff up later. Feel free to cut and paste all the stuff you guys want to. I was there this last week and I can tell you Sims looks like a 1st round pick. I think he will show up this year.

Formerdb is the screen name that everyone knows him by. Most old timers on this board and others know his name. I don't know if he wants to keep it secret or not.

cool..I understand

here's a camp wrapup with more good stuff:

Sims and Kawika

snips:

"Don't assume gloom and doom for Sims. You should expect a player three times better than what you've seen until now. To understand Sims, just look at a meter bar, from 0 to 10; Sims was at 5 before the offseason. Sims, during his first two seasons was badly injured, out of shape and playing in the wrong scheme. The scheme was so bad that Carl "Big Daddy" Hairston cussed out Greg Robinson and stormed out of one of their meetings in Sims' second year. Remember too the frustration Sims expressed in our interview about playing under Robinson. Last year Gun introduced him to the style he likes to play, but Sims wasn't in the proper shape to play it aggressively. So that's why he trained with the team this offseason, rather than yuck it up in Atlanta. So now Sims is passing the 7 mark on the meter, because he's fine-tuned the physical attributes needed to be the dominant tackle everyone predicted he'd be when taken with the sixth pick overall in the 2002 draft."

Good stuff.

'Keyaron Fox... ENOUGH SAID!!! I actually entertained thoughts on the field, based on what I was seeing, that one of two things will happen: Fox will leave after his contract is up and become a star for another team, or he will bump Kendrell Bell to second team. That might not be a bad thing, because Bell's contract is based on a bunch of incentives because of his injury history, including his signing bonus, so the Chiefs won't waste a bunch of money... I think. I'm not a capologist, but the point is this: Fox is fast, tough and is always in the right place."

htismaqe 08-08-2005 12:59 PM

I hope this stuff is true. If we can get a big contribution out of both Sims and Mitchell, our defense could potentially be ALOT better.

Heh, I love the last line on that one.
