I don't think McDermott is going to be IA's first choice. I think they'll go after the Creighton coach first.

Rob Jeter appears to be the man.

I know, I've been wishing he'd leave for 3 years now, but I don't think IU wants him that bad.

McDermott should stay where he's at.

The mens basketball program at ISU is a train wreck. Why would anyone want the job?

Every indication I've read is that Indiana doesn't want Alford. They want Randy Whitman. I don't blame them.

i have no idea whether huggins would want K-state or not... just saying they i doubt the ISU wants baggage right now.

Even though ISU appears to have done nothing wrong in this D1 Scheduling deal, it's definitely gonna weigh on Pollard's coaching hire. They're gonna go squeaky clean, IMO. I think they're gonna take a hard look at Fred Hoiberg.

Must have missed that when I was out of town. I think that's worse news for the Cyclones than Morgan's firing.

I have no idea if that's a good move or not, but it would sure be interesting. If he was good they could have a home grown star for a long long time.

Listen..Rob Jeter is ISU's man. He'll be hired soon.

htismaqe 03-21-2006 08:42 AM

Rob Jeter just announced that he's flattered at how aggressively ISU pursued him, but he's staying at Milwaukee...

ROFL

This is getting good.

Rob Jeter announced this morning that he's staying at UW-Milwaukee.

Now within the last 10 minutes, ISU has announced a public press conference this evening - fans are invited - to announce a new head basketball coach.

Saulbadguy 03-21-2006 09:06 AM

I'm not sure Jeter was the right choice. He's had 1 year experience as a D1 HC.

Saulbadguy 03-21-2006 09:19 AM

Greg McDermott has accepted the Iowa State job.

Northern Iowa's Greg McDermott has been hired as men's basketball coach at Iowa State, officials close to the search told the Des Moines Register today.

Steve Malchow, Iowa State associate athletic director, confirmed there is a 6 p.m. press conference today at Hilton Coliseum in Ames — but declined to confirm McDermott had accepted the job.

Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball coach Rob Jeter told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel newspaper this morning that he plans to remain in Milwaukee.

Northern Iowa coach Greg McDermott is the other coach who has interviewed, Iowa State officials said late Monday.

"I wasn't looking for a job, and they came after me hard, and quick and aggressive," Jeter told the Milwaukee newspaper. "It was flattering, but I'm staying here in Milwaukee."

McDermott, 41, has a 90-63 record and three NCAA Tournament appearances in five seasons at Northern Iowa.

The Panthers lost against Georgetown in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

That sucks.
I knew McDermott wouldn't stay at UNI forever, but I sure as hell didn't want him to end up at ISU.

He's got a LOT of work to do.

I didn't think Jeter would turn em down. McDermott is the better choice for ISU imo, and that is too bad for fans of other Big XII teams.
