Despite his accomplishments on the field, Lewis' public image was tarnished following a Super Bowl party on January 31, 2000, when he was arrested (along with his friends Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting) for the murders of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Baker and Lollar were stabbed and killed outside a nightclub during a fight in the Buckhead district of Atlanta.

To have murder charges dismissed, Lewis pled guilty in a bargain to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice, and agreed to testify against Oakley and Sweeting, who were each charged with murder. Oakley and Sweeting went on to hire the very high priced legal representation of noted Atlanta criminal defense attorneys, L. David Wolfe, Bruce Harvey, and Steve Sadow. Though all were acquitted in June 2000, the Atlanta Police Department and District Attorney's office believe Lewis' associates to be guilty. No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime.

On 29 April 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, who was born shortly after the death of her father Richard. The settlement (reported by The Baltimore Sun to be at least US$1 million) pre-empted the civil trial scheduled for 14 June from going forth. The suit filed by the Baker family was also settled. The terms were undisclosed.

Well first he snitched on his homies, and then he paid the daughter of the murder victim a shit load of money for his death, basically meaning he did it.

Basically, I'm glad you're not a lawyer.

So he "obstructed justice?" Wow.

And the guys he "snitched" on were acquitted? Must have really ratted them out.....

A civil suit was filed because of who he is and the money he makes.

Doesn't make him guilty.

Yep.

LL ranks well above Lewis or Steroidman. He even was caught a second time and was given the star treatment. Again.

Had any of us been behind the wheel of that Navigator the night Susan Gutweiler was killed, we'd still be in prison......

Not to mention he got another DWI after that. And the husband of that woman is an NFL photographer and has to take photos of the man that killed his wife.

Shit like that makes me sick.

Herm more than either one

RJ 01-28-2007 04:34 PM

I gots no problem with either player. Same with Gaz. Me and him are cool as far as I know.

If I hated all murderers, I would have to hate Rich Scanlon for killing all those n00bs. And to hate Rich Scanlon is to hate yourself.

Seriously though, as a player, not as a person, Merriman is far more hateable. I probably hate him more than most Broncos, sans Nalen. Since the Raiders have been shitty as of late, I hate Merriman more than all the Raiders.

Merriman is a punk ass n00b bitch. He makes statements proclaiming himself as being better than a great man and player like Junior Seau. He doesn't even know what he just said right there. I doubt he'll be better than Seau.

He has tiny testicles from steriods. He does a gay ass dance. What's not to hate about Merriman?

Not that I wish it upon him, but if there had to be one player in the NFL to have a career-ending injury next season, Merriman would definitely be a top 3 candidate.

HonestChieffan 01-28-2007 04:51 PM

Merriman does his job. So you dislike a guy who plays his position well?

How absurd.

Buck 01-28-2007 04:54 PM

Im sure everyone has taken a shortcut to get something done at work, and theres always a risk for taking it.

You mean like Peyton Manning? Yeah, we all hate Manning because he does his job well :shake:

Dumbass.

You call it "taking a shortcut". Everyone else calls it "cheating".

No kidding... talk about doing logical gymnastics...

UteChief 01-28-2007 05:42 PM

I don't care for Merriman but I can't stand Lewis. And I think Little should be in jail. Whenever I am talking about athletes or celebrities getting unfair treatment, I bring this guy up and tell people how ridiculous it is that he's not in jail.

listopencil 01-28-2007 06:39 PM

Tough one. I'll pick Lewis because he's been a POS for a longer time.
