Don Furtune sounds about right, but I was only about 5 or 6 when we left the area. The guy kind of reminded me of Bert (Ernies friend [NTTAWWT]).

Years after that commercial originally aired I remember driving by their location and for some reason getting a bit excited.

Standard Commercial

It'd have to be mid-70s, as the 'rents tossed the TV when I hit grade school.

I don't even remember going to the grocery store when I lived there. We lived out in the sticks near Freeman. I think Mom got the groceries on her way home from work at one of the hospitals in KC.

Don Fortune looks like a skinny Pat Robertson with thick glasses.

One that always bothered me, because I went to high school there, was the Sonny Hill "Right by the Platte City water tower" commercials done by the world's biggest redneck.

What was the used car dealer that did the naked guys in a barrel?

As a side note, I used to know Ray Adams. I was good friends with his son my first year of college. I'll never forget him calling my mother to inform her of the "opium den" that our friend's house was.

I think this is how this commercial went:

Here dog, come on dog
Me and dog are going to Dick Smith Ford town....
In Raaaytown
Get a doggone good deal at Dick Smith Ford

arf...arf

Growing up in Columbia, my only exposure to KC was on cable channel 41, which I would watch religiously every Sunday morning. "Cisco Kid," "All-Star Wrestling," "Lone Ranger." The commercials are still fresh in my mind.

"The loan arranger rides again."

Catchy tune:"Call 321-2277 anytime night or day."
