Suicide is for noobs, but it's a little much to just flippantly say "He's an asshole, **** him." It's very possible that he had mental health issues that nobody picked up on. There are always signs that somebody is suicidal, and sometimes it takes a close friend or family member to catch those signs and get the person help before it's too late.

That doesn't excuse him for making a stupid decision, but obviously the kid needed help that nobody offered.

There are not always signs honestly...

Was Gary Protzmann a Kansas City Chiefs fan?

I can see this debate is going to get nasty. Take it somewhere else keep it out of Farzin's prayer thread.

Farzin, just remember the good times.

Stanley Nickels 11-17-2008 08:12 PM

This thread has potential for a blowup we really don't want.

Suicide is selfish.
Kids make mistakes.
Rationale is subjective, especially when your hormones are going in every direction.
To the OP, don't let it keep you down. Use the event as a lesson to notice signs in other friends and family, and interject if you feel it necessary.

BigRedChief 11-17-2008 08:13 PM

Suicide is a cowards way out. It also says I don't care how how much pain I cause others I want mine to stop. Who knows what it takes to get to that point? Whats everybody's breaking point? Walk a mile in their shoes before throwing stones etc...

But also I don't believe in kicking a man when he's down.

I'm not a qualified expert and I'm not looking to pick a fight with anybody. My comments were designed to help Farzin feel better about it instead of feeling badly about the whole situation.

That's just it. If he's in that state of mind, then there was probably no one who would have been able to rationalize anything with him, including himself. While I've had the thoughts like, "How would the world be different without me?", "Who would attend my funeral?", etc, I've never actually considered offing myself. I've never been that far into that state of mind to understand how a person like that must be feeling or the thoughts rolling through his head. You're calling him a loser and telling his friend to forget he ever existed. You're not just telling his friend to be mad about the situation.

As the OP asks, I will send good thoughts to his friends and family.

I have a strong opinion about this and I'm happy to answer your questions and defend my position but I won't continue it on this thread.

Mr. Flopnuts 11-17-2008 08:21 PM

I don't think it's fair to judge someone by their "mental toughness". There are a lot of factors that contribute to it that is completely out of our control. We're conditioned as children to act, and react to things differently. What may have seemed simple to many of you could have been beyond unbearable for this young man. And he was a young man. 17. That was the toughest year of my life, and 18 wasn't a whole helluva lot better. It's a shame, it's not like this kid had 30-40 years of experience to base his decision off of.

I agree with your opinions to an extent, but there's no need for further discussion. No defending necessary. Didn't mean to come across as that offensive.

BigVE 11-17-2008 08:31 PM

Sorry for your loss. Sorry that poor kid thought that there was no other answer than this. Sorry for his family and friends.

His entire legacy is defined by this one moment, taking the lazy way out. If he were an acquaintance of mine, I'd attend the funeral for his family's sake and then expel him from existence. I simply cannot and will not tolerate suicide.

Jesus ****ing Christ.
