Wow.

I just asked and they said no. It applies only if it falls on a work day (which it doesnt say in the handbook) and they also said Management can change the policy at any time and that we'll probably have less paid days off next year.

Glad to see Management looking out for its employees.

Not to be too much of a whiner, but damn.

We're open but get an additional personal holiday to use as we wish. I have already used mine, so unless I want to use a vacation day, I will be here.

Since it falls on a Saturday, am I just out of luck or what? Or should I be getting a day off, or be getting paid for Saturday since it says its a Paid day off?

Yes. You should. If it's in their handbook, they need to honor it. Of course, they'll find a reason to let you go if you bitch too much. Companies go full reerun during recessions. They don't want to lose good help ever, but they know they have the upper hand during times like these. Then the economy gets better, jobs are plentiful again, and they can't figure out why you're leaving when they try to beat the current offer. As if they completely forgot ****ing you over every chance they had when times were down.

Open for business and working on the 3rd, 4th...and 5th

CoMoChief 06-29-2009 11:39 AM

Nope.

I've had 4 day weekends the past 3 weeks, and get a 3 day weekend this week. It's been great.

That depends on the way you are employed. If you have a contract or a union agreement, the holiday rules are clear and enforceable. If not, it's just a company policy, which sounds like your case. They likely mean that in the event you lose a day of work due to a company closure on a holiday, you are compensated. If it is a day you normally do not work, you lost no work, so they don't have to pay you.

Ahhh okay, that makes sense...

I wish they would have worded that clearer in the handbook.

Call in Friday and tell them that the voices in your head told you to stay home and clean your guns. Then tell them you want Friday and Saturday paid as well.

DaKCMan AP 06-29-2009 12:18 PM

We're open 24/7/365, but it's a company holiday so I wont be in. PBJ

Can't wait since my girl is driving in Thursday night :)

Iowanian 06-29-2009 12:23 PM

It depends if my deadlines are made this week.

wild1 06-29-2009 12:28 PM

Well, it is, but I'm not working.

Iowanian 06-29-2009 12:31 PM

What are these Paid Vacation and Holiday things of which you speak?

mikeyis4dcats. 06-29-2009 01:18 PM

our employee manual says we only get it during the week, but it came up in last week's staff meeting and we were told we'd close. I was shocked.

Sure-Oz 06-29-2009 02:25 PM

The business office isn't open, but there are a few people on call that are working and will get that day off later as a floating holiday whenever they want. I am off though.
