5 years in, the player you see is the player that you get.

Nope

He is arguably a lot more talented then Mays and Williams and is one of the few guys we have on defense that can actually make plays..

Arguably isn't the word you are seeking, unquestionably is more accurate. That "player" has talent far greater than many pro bowl backers in this league, but he lacks far too much in the cerebral department to translate it onto the field.

Keep in mind that DJ has had pure SHIT for coaching ever since he was drafted. I believe he needs to be allowed to go to the ball from his basic instinct rather than force him to have to overthink his responsibilities. I've heard football analysts state that before that many players are atheletes first and if they are forced to think everything out it takes away from their game. Now that we have Romeo he'll be given a fair chance under a good DC. This year will be a new beginning or his last as a Chief. JMO

I remember training camp last year where DJ was pulled from practice to the punishment area, and he was having a hard time carrying a 10 pound weight while doing lunges every 5 yards. I remember posting in my camp updates that he looked like he never lifted a weight before, and was completely out of shape.

God given ability can only take you so far. DJ needs to finally grow up, get in shape, and be a leader on Defense. Or, he can just let his personal life ruin his career.

Never underestimate a coaches affinity for a player clouding his judgement.

hold your horses, I was assured that without a doubt DJ would NOT be a Chief this year by someone who has secrets.

lol

I think it is very unlikely he will start because sadly he is what he is. I think/hope the first round tender was for negiotiating compensation for whomever was enamored with that denver game. Point blank I am close to given up on dj, he misses too many tackles and is too soft.

Pioli: DEAL !!!!!!!!!!! (Pioli nuts in his pants)

Suckers: Well that was fast.

Pioli: No reneging or you will be sleeping with the fishes.

I would say that's completely up to DJ.

Does he want to start badly enough that he plays (and practices) like a starter? Does he continue to be inconsistent and give the coaches reason to believe he's not serious?

He has the talent.
Does he have the heart?

This is the part that interests me. You're right, he's had bad coaching throughout his career, and Im curious to see how he performs under a competent defensive co-ordinator.

But then again, who knows? Keith Bulluck is a good LBer, and look who coached him? Maybe it's just the player? I don't know. Just want to see how he responds under Crennel. If he is still the same guy, then yeah, he is what he is.
