If I'm on the phone, I try to make a big deal about going no lower than my 4.

Then I offer my 3 and 2b if necessary.

And if nut-cutting time approaches, I'd give up 2a and our 3 in exchange for 2 and 4.

I'd have to swallow very very hard before giving up 2a and 3 for Clausen.

Talking to a Viking buddy, he thinks Minn. is holding that pick in hopes of another team wanting Clausen bad enough to wheel and deal. If it doesn't happen, he thinks Mays is their pick. FWIW

Agreed. That is why I was hoping they would pull it off last night.

With Cleveland and Buffalo already contacting the Rams, it might drive the price too high. On the positive side though, that would help push additional talent down to us at 2a.

I wouldn't move at all...if Clausen falls to us fine & if he gets picked before us then that leaves A LOT of talent on the board for #36 & #50.

Warning bells should be going off for Pioli right now. If we want to trade up we should offer what we think is fair to move up three spots in the 2nd round and no more. We can't get suckered into a bidding war.

the Talking Can 04-23-2010 11:16 AM

you could have had him last night for a 4th, maybe even a swap in round 3 and a 5th

which is why I don't think the Chiefs are serious about him unless he drops in their lap and then maybe....

Chiefnj2 04-23-2010 11:23 AM

I don't think Cleveland is interested in Clausen. If they wanted to give more time to a Weis disciple they could have kept Quinn. They also have enough picks to move around and get something done yesterday.

same could be said for Cleveland and Buffalo(or anyone really)

if they were serious about getting Clausen why didn't they trade back into round 1 and get Clausen last night?

That makes sense to me. Picking Clausen just gives Favre even more reason to retire, and the Vikes want to take one more shot with him.

If you swallowed well enough... you may not have to give up more than a fifth.

I vote gamble the Vikes don't trade up.

That is a good gamble.... since they are already ahead of us.

Clayton is now saying that the Rams don't want to trade down too far and miss out on a Wide Receiver which probably means Clevenland/Buffalo will have to pay a ton to get up there.

They could trade down to #36 and still get a damn good WR. :D

Michael Smith is now saying that he doesn't see Cleveland taking a QB today at all. They just have too many needs.
