Well the proof is in the pudding, kcchiefsking.

ESPN 2K5 was clearly better and I had played Madden like most people up to that point.

I doubt EA ever lets the licesne out of their grasp.

the fact their games (at least football) are average at best, and the fact they have the onions to charge $60 for their product without putting much development into it year in and year out...
it's a cash cow for EA.

that said...I wish the license would go away and we'd see some competition for football gaming dollars.

ESPN 2k5. Only next gen NFL game I ever bought. **** Madden.

Ea couldn't compete so they bought their way to the top.

If you like GAMEPLAY and you didn't choose Madden, you don't know what you're playing.

Madden 05 was actually a really good game.

My problem with 2k5 was if you understood how to look at the defense before the snap you could literally complete every ****ing pass. The coverages were so telegraphed you knew what would work and what wouldn't before you ever snapped the ball.

I completed something like 80% of my passes with Trent Green on that game.

Madden on the PS2 and the Xbox was always a pretty good game, by the end of the generation it was very good, the problem is it's been balls since the next gen systems came out.

They still haven't put things in that were in the old gen games, shit like that is unacceptable.

Microsoft is working on a "dick stick" for the next game so you grab the other team, or take photos of it and send to the press.

Seriously?

ESPN 2k5, like Madden, has always had sliders you could adjust if you found the game to be to difficult, or too easy.

Madden has also always had several "money" plays that the CPU just could not stop.

What 2k5 DIDNT have however, was the super awesome defensive stamina draining glitch.

Madden 05 tried to be innovative and work in formation shifts before the snap, so teams who ran offenses like that could be played this way in game.

Sadly, for every time you shifted your formation, the game would glitch and the defensive players stamina would be reduced exponentially each time. Do that a few times each snap and you have players on the field whose top running speed is that of an 80 year old man with severe spinabifida.

So Madden pretty much made you choose what was gonna happen. You keep fatigue on, and you keep the auto subs and things as they were and NEVER ran a single formation shift (one of the biggest offensive improvements)....or you turn fatigue off and never see any of the starters ever come out of the game at all, and you play against players who never get tired.

If Im having to choose between a $20 game that is a bit too easy and can be tweaked with difficulty sliders, or a $50 game that has the same issues and a game breaking glitch in there you can do nothing about, thats a pretty simple decision.

My post raging about that glitch is actually still here from when I posted about it when the game first came out, and how bummed I was that the NFL License was stuck with these assclowns at EA Sports.

You watch this, and then you tell me that Madden had superior gameplay.

NFL 2k5 was the shit.. and it was much cheaper, but people forget that was also a very good year for Madden. The gameplay was pretty good, they had the interviews with actual players for real in franchise mode, they had all the drills still in there (fun times), and it just felt right.

I'd say 2k5 was probably the better game, but 05 for Madden was the best up until maybe 09, and franchise mode might still have been better in 05, even though that's pretty sad to say.

Edit: One note, I do not play online with football games, so those kind of glitches I can't comment on, and I probably didn't experience them in any significant way. Money plays and glitching are why I refuse to play football online, there always seems to be some.
