They don't steal or do ID theft, and its not like they are some scary criminal gang who will shoot anyone up or anything, I'm pretty sure they only do online crap. But, this is not a group who you give your name and then do something specifically to them that they don't like.

They aren't really an organization at all. There are no leaders, and they have no structure and no member list.
It's just a random social group that congregates around the /b/ boards of various chans (mainly shhhh, warning do not go there as there is a decently high chance of seeing child porn.)
Stuff like this really shouldn't be attributed to anonymous so much as to an individual or small group of individuals. Imagine if some random person who hangs out on Chiefs planet decided to go deface other football forums and posted "Don't **** with Chiefsplanet, we will own you". It's pretty much exactly like that.
As for the part about them not stealing or doing ID theft... well that's the thing about giant social collectives, they are made up of all types. I'm pretty sure that many of the black hats who associate with anonymous have done those things and continue to do them, and frankly those aren't near the worst of it either. |
