I won't melt down if the Broncos don't take Dareus or Fairley as long as we wind up with Von Miller or Patrick Peterson.

I want Dareus or Fairley because DT is our biggest need and those guys are extremely good prospects....

That's good. What if the Broncos took Green?

Wouldn't be happy with a WR, OT, or a QB.

BossChief 04-26-2011 08:49 PM

I hope Denver takes Fairley.

For us, thats probably best case scenario.

Try looking at it this way: if they were available last year, where would they go in relation to other players at their position?

Dareus/Fairley? 3rd at best, behind Suh and McCoy.
Peterson? 1st.
Miller? 1st.

God I hope Carolina takes him.

Those were two of the best DT's to come out in a long time and Suh was a once in a decade type player. Dareus and Fairley would be top 5-10 picks in any draft.

NFL.com gave McCoy an 8.8 grade coming out and Suh an 8.7 grade. They gave Dareus an 8.6 (tied with Peterson and Miller btw) and Fairley an 8.5.

After watching this do you still think that Dareus doesn't have the potential to be a dominant DT in the NFL?

He has the potential to be, I just don't think he will. I think he'll be an average to above-average DT for 5-6 years, or he'll bust completely. As far as NFL.com's ratings, I don't think there are many people that agree with that. I certainly don't. I saw one rating system out of 9 points, Miller and Peterson were both in the 8s, and Dareus was in the 6s. That's closer to what I see.

Look at the rate of busted DTs in the first round. Something like 15 of the 23 DTs taken in the first round over the past decade were busts. What did most of the busts have in common? Crazy measurables with a lack of production. Of course, there were always excuses as to why they didn't produce in college, but then they got to the pros, and everyone was surprised that they didn't produce like they "should."

What is this myth that Dareus is some kind of workout warrior? I am nearly convinced that you don't watch college football.

I didn't say he was a workout warrior, and perhaps I'm overstating the effect of his predraft performances, but the fact remains that his college production doesn't match what he is expected to do in the NFL. I just don't want the Broncos to reach for need and get themselves their own Tyson Jackson.

It seems like he's never watched Dareus play.

Peterson would get drafted higher than Haden because of measureables, but Haden will have a better career.
